164k miles is kinda on the high side... i would say to definately rebuild it if your going turbo... if you SC with a conservative amount of boost i'd say you'd be okay (not for long though)... and the supercharger is definately safer... and the JRSC is street legal too whereas most turbo kits (except for greddy w/o the FMIC though) arent legal... but i mean its all a personal choice of preference... i dont know too much yet since im still learning but i would say def. research a bit more before you make your decision... check this: http://www.automotivetech.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=18
for some info... pretty knowledgable guys there... well good luck! :bigthumb:

Ive heard of people turboing ther civics with that amount of miles on the car yeah its not the safest thing but if your rebuilding the motor go for it but it would probably be wiser to spend the money on rebuilding the motor first IMO. and if u do turbo/s.c it run low boost. and IMO I like turboes better than a super charger..but again its all in your personal preference..

If you rebuild the motor, your starting off with 0 miles as is pretty much. You'll want to resleeve the motor, you could go with stock bore or up to 84.5mm which will get you close to a 2 liter without changing cranks. You'll want crower rods and arias or je pistons. Almost all turbo kits are not carb exempt and the ones that are aren't worth it anyway. Custom turbo kits are the only way to go in my opinion. I have a gsr motor in my civic coupe that I rebuilt and now I make 330whp @ 8psi on pump gas and 500whp @ 23psi on race fuel.
In the end, everyone will say a sc is safer than a turbo. To me, that's all bs. Boost is boost, and i've seen sc cars blow up just the same. Tuning is the key to keeping your motor safe. I have run my car hard for almost a year now and it's been going fine for me. In the end, the turbo will make more boost, more power, and won't drop off top end. There are endless possibilites when going turbo. Where as with a sc, your limited by the pulley you get. If you have more questions, please ask.

i heard that if you bore it out you will lose some power in the top end and you know that is were the power is in the vtecs or any honda engine. or is that enough not to disturb the high end and give it more power all around.

whoever told you that is someone i would keep my car away from. You will make alot more torque. Shit, all the guys that run the turbo street class are using 84.5mm sleeves practically. Well all the fast ones that is. Most of the low 11 to low 10 sec street cars are running 84.5mm bore. You will not loose top end, i have insane top end. I pull on bikes, i pulled on a single turbo supra while he was spraying on me. Your top end would not be hurt from this.

Wouldnt the smart thing to do is just close deck the bottum end instead of resleaving? You can run a shit load of boost safely.

how much on a street car. I personally will run around 35psi on my car. I don't know much about closed deck, but if your still using stock sleeves, I wouldn't do it.

Yeah with 35 lbs of boost you will definatly have to close deck it. Its not cheap but I dont think even new sleaves will hold 35 lbs. Thats just a insane amount for a honda but you know what I'm building a b18 non vtec and my goal is about 30 pounds and I plan on close decking it if I can afford it.

The GE sleeves will hold 35psi, for how long, who knows. But it will hold.

Can you put a block guard on new sleeves to help the pressure at the top of the sleeve????

You really wouldn't need to being that it's resleeved and the sleeves are much stronger.

Yeah I know I was just pondering about it and for the nuts who want to be super safe about it so they dont reck there investment.
