Scrap Container Haul

tiking

The container is supposed to be filled to the brim with scrap tires but I did not have sufficient to achieve this. So ill have to get my hands on some tires that no one has a need for. A little more toning the weathering on the container, behind the cab, and minute detailing and it is done.

Nice work. Love the weathering and distress/broken welds on the can. The weather looks great, but one thing, the whole truck is dirty and worn, but the tire treads on perfectly clean. They need some dirt/rocks in them to blend into the rest of the build.

As for the scrap tire issue, go to your local dollar store or craft store and get some floral foam and cut it to size of the can and drop it in the bottom, then put your tires on top to raise the volume.

Thanks for the tips David. Much appreciated. I did noticed i needed to dirtier them up a bit. Realized after taking the pics.

Outstanding job, Charles! Your eye for weathering in impeccable. Subtle and not-so-subtle touches here and there just blend into a very believable well-used workhorse.

Very cool, nicely weathered.

That seems like a huge volume to fill with 1/24 tires. I would consider casting a bunch out of resin. (Of course with all that space to play with, I would also consider something a bit more absurd. Like maybe fill it with cow dung- a full "shit load". Or a group of children playing jump rope. Or Rodin's The Thinker....)

Where did the Michelin man come from?

Thanks for the tips. Actually. Its not much volume left. I had a box load but it just wasn't enough. Or like I have said, I can just place a piece of foam at the base to raise the tires. But I wanted it to be filled with tires so when people look into the container will will see, they are tires in there as they can see all the way down to the bottom. :licka:

Love the weathering. With the general air of not being looked after, I would suggest the tires would be bald or near to it. Maybe use filler on the tread to get the effect with just the impression of the tread left.

I am also guessing you are displaying it on the block of wood to soak up the oil leaks.:p

If it wasn't for the block of wood it was sitting on I'd say you were having a lend of us by saying it was a model...the detail to the weathering is magic! Well done, and my hat goes off to you.

Cheers,
Anthony

I got lots of extra tires from other modelers from around the world. Great thank you to all those fellow modellers who have contributed all the extra tyres. Just goes to show, that there is still hooe for humanity.

I finally got the tires into the container. 163 tires to be exact. Thanks to all my fellow modellers from around the world who donated most of the tires. I also added the twist locks to the underside at all four corners of the container to hold them in place. I made some few changes of the placement of the wheels and did some minor painting and slight weathering. I also moved the tractor slightly forward away from the trailer to show more of the fifth wheel. So I hope you all approve of the final look as I am calling this done.

absolutely lovely.
It is so nice to see skilled modellers doing truck this way. I am not alone with my sickness out there then :biggrin:

and I noted swedish roads give a LOT of inspiration for serious truck modelling. Beffer I not mention my fresh falling in love with volvo A40F then.... better noppp....:grinyes::grinyes:

btw, take a look at tony canfora website (www.canfora.se). he is going to publish in May a very cool book of 160 pages full color about truck modelling.
I cant miss it...

You are definitely not alone. I like looking at show trucks but I do not like building them. I like to see trucks the way they look in real life,
