History question

The Old Mole

This is research for a historical novel, and I'm hoping someone here can help me. It's about 1925, and my character is driving from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Kansas City. It wouldn't be a new car -- an old jalopy, even then.

How long is it going to take him? What roads will he take? What's he likely to be driving? He's an African-American musician, so it should be a biggish vehicle, able to accommodate four people, some dogs, and musical instruments.
