I just installed a rebuilt jasper engine in my 96 Buick Park avenue. I connected a scan tool and it shows it running at 215 degrees f. at idle. Is this normal

Sure.......If you just let it idle, it will eventually get up to 218F(or 228F, not sure which is correct), and turn on the cooling fan....

Take the vehicle for a ride on the highway.....watch temp...with a 190F therm, should see it cycle 190-215....may go a little lower...this is because of the air flowing across the engine removing the heat....

By idling, there is no air across that engine to remove heat, and it will eventually get up to the set point where the cooling fan comes on, and drops the temp about 10-15 degrees, and then the fan shuts off, and the cycle begins again....

ok thanks for response. The engine temp is normal driving down the road. So every thing is ok now.
