Fuel pump for 08 Silverado

While doing other repairs to my 08 Silverado crew cab truck today in inadvertently broke the fuel return off flush with the coupler fitting on the sending unit.I asked a mechanic friend of mine and he told me I could use the new style rubber hose to repair the line with, the stuff approved for ethanol fuel. There's enough of the steel pipe left on the sending unit to clamp to and I could run it along the tank the same as the factory hose, then clamp it to the steel line running down the frame. My dilemma is whether I should trust this kind of repair or if I should source a new sending unit and replace it and be done with it.If I do go this route what brands of sending units are trustworthy? Going OEM would be ideal but the cost for a unit from a stealership is almost prohibitive. Are there some aftermarket ones that should be avoided all together ?

post a picture of whats broke... there are many types of nylon to steel line connections for ethanol fuels. steel to steel /nylon to nylon / or steel to nylon. quick dis-connects are also available not just locked together. the fuel pump assy has a pressure transducer . this senses tank vac and pressure I would go with an ac delco unit .. never use any airtex fuel pumps ..

Unfortunately my truck isn't at my place so taking a pic would have to wait til tomorrow, but I'm hoping to find what ever I need to fix this so I can have it up and running Monday. If you can picture it in your mind there's 3 lines on the top of the sending unit, the main feed, the return line, smaller, and what I'm assuming is the vent line. The return line tube is broke off and leaving roughly 1.25"-1.5" of steel tubing before it 90's down into the unit.If you could give me some idea of a fitting I could use to clamp hose to what's left and save me about $500 for a new sending unit.

Maybe you can shed some light on the multiple listings for pumps for these trucks too. Some are listed for standard bed trucks, some for extended cabs, some for crew cabs.I cant imagine what would be different in the hose connection that the sending units are truck specific, are they?

my guess is you broke off the return steel tube at the flange that holds the plastic line connector. not much space to make a repair but it may be possible.with a compression fitting and a steel line made with the flange to hold the plastic return line fitting it could fit/work. so you would need 1, 5/16in coupler compression fitting and a short 5/16 in steel line with a flange . cost about $20...

cost for a fuel pump is about $500....
I would not use any rubber hoses....crew cab has different pumps depends on size of truck. also emission type.

I believe the smallest line is the return. the largest the vapor and the middle size fuel supply line..you lines may be different than my 5/16in so check on the size first..
