2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 4.7 engine GPS DVD Uconnect every option
112k miles I just bought for my daughter # 2.

Daughter # 1 has the same car 2005 JGC limited HEMI GPS DVD Uconnect and no problem backing up with the problem listed below for daughter # 2 2005 Jeep.

Well backing out the driveway there is a binding in the front steering when turning the wheels until we back down the driveway and turn the wheels to straighten out another binding until you completely start to proceed straight. Then the car is fine when it warms up. Then if you let it sit while you are at work it will do the same thing.

I had the vehicle at a repair center that has done work on my vehicles over the years. I had a oil pressure switch replaced and the rear pinion seal replaced.

The shop added some oil additive in the transfer case to see if it would make the binding stop. The clutches are binding and he hopes the oil additive will work, said to give it a week to see if it will help.

I have to call the place where I bought the car from as its still under warranty and tell him that the transfer case might be on its way out with bad clutches.

Shop said next thing would be to drain all the fluid and replace with new and the special additive.

Has anyone had this problem and what might have been your fix? I spent the weekend searching the problem and seems its quite big with many Jeeps with the binding in the transfer case backing up until it warms up.

I read where people have replaced the transfer case and same problem!!!

The 4x4 does work I checked it out.

Any suggestions what might be going on and what I should do?

thanks

Here is an update to the binding on the 2005 Jeep.

Searching the net I found the following link that describes my problem to a T-
Jeep is in the shop as of &am this morning and got a call that the wire harness that is internal to the Front differential is also bad. Had to drive to Methuen Ma. to get the harness. The solenoid was at a local Jeep dealer. So don't know if I will get the jeep back today or the morning.
Please read the complete article as on the net this is a big problem/complaint with many people having the symptoms I am having the binding the first few minutes. The bad solenoid is letting the car go in posi lock in the front differential. I will report back and let you all know if this cured my daughters problem.

In the article the dealer states this is normal to the owner of the Jeep BS!!!

Please read article and Im sure this will help. this should also be a sticky for this problem.

Here is an update to the 2005 Jeep binding problem when cold in the morning of when jeep sits over night.

The shop replaced the Front axle locker solenoid and the internal harness solenoid was $62.00 and Harness was $14.00. Total with labor was $381.00
The only problem is the front differential cover is in tight quarters and hard to get at. Removal just about gives enough room to do this job. Anything more and the front axle has to be removed to do a rebuild.

All new oil and additive. Well the jeep is perfect backing up and turning in the morning. Problem fixed
The harness had 2 broken wires inside and that was not activating the solenoid to keep the front clutch pack from locking up and putting it in posi traction mode.

The rear differential also has this electronic module same part number for both, that one is ok.

So I have seen many people complain about this and dealer does not know what the problem might be and tell customer they need a new rear or front differential. Also as the article I posted the owner had 2 transfer case replaced only to have the problem to come back.

Please read the article in second post if you think you might have this problem.
