Crank, fire, no start

Hi. F-250, 1989, 460. Until the truck set through 2 weeks of 90+ weather it started just fine. This morning it would not start. Plenty of cranking power, seems to fire then nothing. I can keep on cranking. I am not a mechanic and will have to get a tow to a shop. I would like a few of the common problems that it could be so that after I get a diagnosis, I will know if the shop is giving me the straight scoop or inflating the problem. I more-or-less trust the shop but just need a bit of knowledge.

Thanks

could be many things.

Do you hear the fuel pump whine when you turn the key to the on position but not cranking?

I'm thinking it could be your fuel pump is dead?

If the truck cranks over and over but does not start it may be a faulty pump.

This is just one of the many things it could be.

Have someone listen to hear for the pump (sometimes you can hear the pump when you are sitting in the cab, other times you may need someone to be closer to the fuel tank.)

When you put the key to the on position (before crank position) the pump should engage with a whine for a couple of seconds.
