power steering replacement

I have a 2000 f 150
I replaced power steering pump I know I need to bleed the lines I did. 1 time but still wines so I'm thinking if I disconnect the ignition wires to keep it from cranking drain and plug the reservoir and turn the motor over to completely drain the lines and refill. will that work?

What was your process of bleeding the system? Some systems,particularly fords, are difficult to purge the air from, you may need to repeat the process a few times. I have also had to apply vacuum to the system to assist the bleed process.

You could try your idea if you'd like, but I would be concerned about introducing more air into the system.

well what I was told was to fill the system to the cold mark turn the wheel back and forth and recheck the fluid level adding if needed and to keep repeating process until it stops making noise.
I may not have done it enough but the fluid level didn't seem to change

That is the correct method. Turning your wheel side to side will work. I just recently put in a new power steering hose and I had to turn it many times before all the air was purged. Make sure the cap is off. takes a little while. I would guess 4- 5 minutes of back and forth turning. And make sure you turn all the way to one side and then all the way to the other side.

Turning it all the way to one side and holding it there,squealing can just suck more air in while the fluid level is low. I was trained to turn it to one side and back off a hair so theres no squeal or groan,hold it there for a second or two then turn to the other side and do the same over and over.

The turning side to side thing is usually done (at least by me) without the engine running.

hi, well I found out what the problem was.It wasn't the pump, of all things it was the idler pulley, all the times I took that belt off I never checked it until today .lesson learned, start simple.
