Hey everyone i just signed up for these forums. You all seem pretty knowledgeable about cars, and in all honesty in an idiot. haha
Anyways...
I just ordered my 2003 Accord V6 with the 6 speed trans (240 hp). My friend has got the 2002 auto with the 200 hp. He gets jealous easily when someone has something better than him or something he wants. He wanted an 03 for the longest time, but since he cant get one and I am he has started ragging on the 03. The thing im most confused about is the fact that he says if we raced we would tie. I don't see how, considering ive got 40 more hp, in the torque dept its 212 vs. 195, and they weigh about the same (within 20 lbs), not to mention I have the manual so i can redline it before shifting, whereas hes got his auto shifting around 4k rpms which makes for a somewhat modest output. So which would you say would win, and by how much? Thanks

You would, if he doesn't manualy shift his tranny, 2+ car lengths...
if he does, a car length or more, there is no way unless he has some heavy mods (which it seems he doesn't) you will lose to him.
I envy you, I still want one of those really bad :worshippy I got to test drive one and did 100MPH in 3rd gear :bigthumb:

You're cool too I guess:sunglasse
I am in love with that car of yours. When do you take delivery and when can I start being your new best friend?:bigthumb:
I just want to test drive one of those. When they first came out, I went to the Honda dealer close to my apartment and I was going to pretend I was interested in trading in my 2000 sedan for the 03 coupe just to do a test drive. When I finally went up there, the guy told me that he didn't have any 6spd on the lot, but I could drive an automatic. I told him that it wasn't worth the time because I only drive stick and I would never buy the auto version (not that theres anything wrong with it). I hoped this would prompt him to go find a manny on the lot, but he told me that at that time the auto was the only option available to me. He kept pushing for the test drive on the auto, but I refused.
I guess I shoulda drove the auto just to feel the 240 horses if nothing else. My little Accord is the most powerful car I've ever driven unless you count my bosses 4,000 pound Yukon:frown:
But to answer your question, YOU WOULD MURDER HIM!!!!! Don't get me wrong, I like his car too (even though it only came with auto), but I've seen a 03 V6 Automatic demolish a 01 V6. It wasn't pretty. Even though the 01 V6 was weighed down with 3 people including driver, a ridiculous wing, body kit, and 12' subs in back, if it had been bone stock to bone stock, the outcome would have been nearly the same.
I guess all the extra weight on the guy I saw equals out to the advantage you have in a 6 spd over your friend.
Again, great car. Accords are the greatest (if not the fastest *cough*)

haha thanks man. Yeah i agree, i love accords. Theyre such well rounded cars. Theyre got the power we you need it, the comfort for long hauls, and the body designs to stay modern 10+ years later. My 93 is 10 years old and i still think it looks good. That was the car that caused me to fall in love with accords. Where do you live? Maybe if ur ever down near me ill let ya take a TD haha. I was fortunate for there to be two 6 spds on lot when i went. I testdrove a white one with tan leather. I wish white came with the black leather, it would look great. The other one on lot was Black with black, i looove that combination, but my mom just got a Pilot (which are awesome for an suv) and it shows scratches too easy, thus i decided silver was the way to go.

I'm up in the Windy City where the streets are shitty!!! (Really. The potholes are HORRIBLE) But I'm only here stayin with my mom for the summer. In September, its back to school for me. Tallahassee Florida. That's where I tried to take the test drive. You can meet me and my 12 twin brothers down there. They all wanna test drive it too.:dogpile:
I love my Accord to death! I started out with a 94 which kicked some serious ass! Then some jackass decided to turn into me during the winter and totaled my car:frown: Now she rests in heaven:icesangel Then insurance money came through, got some savings together, got my 2000 and the love affair continues. Mine is dark blue, but I don't have a big problem with scratches (even though my back bumper is scratched up from somebody parking too close or somethin. Friggin Chicagoans:rolleyes: But my doors are all dinged up from parking lots. People just LOVE to hit my car! Bastards.
Now I'm saving up to get the body all dinged out and painted charcoal grey. After that, I'll be one of the guys that parks in the waaay back of the parking lot to avoid body damage. Gotta keep my baby looking clean!

hahha yeah thats me, parking waaay out in the middle of nowhere to avoid little dings. Another appeal to the silver was the heat. It gets really hot and humid here during the summer. Weve hit a heat index of 98 every day this week, and i cant imagine how how the pilot would be if it wasnt in the garage. Black on black sounds like a burnt ass to me during the summer.

'03 Accord V6s are high to mid 14-second cars, while '00-'02 Accord V6s are low-16, high 15-second cars. At least they were tested and rated as such.
You know what's funny?
I saw an archived mag time for an '01 Accord V6, and it ran a 16.2.
In the same magazine, they have the '03 Accord four-cylinder listed as running a 16.0.
You should murder him.

The problem I have with magazine ratings and times is that sometimes they don't say wether or not they tested a manual or auto. I always wanna know both and they rarely list both. Did they say in this mag?? Do you remember?

93 Accords had 140 hp? Is/was your a EX? Cuz I was pretty sure 90-93s had 130 hp. At least for LX and DX. Then in 94, they got a whole extra 5 hp for LX and like 10 hp and VTEC for EX. I could be wrong though.

Mine is listed as 140, ive got an SE accord, it was the last year they made them. SE was like the top of the line, above the EX. The SE came with the gold emblem package, 6 disc cd changer, sunroof, and a Bose system. Also, i went to the Honda dealership and theres some good and bad news about my new accord. The bad news is all they have left is 2 sixspeeds, and neither is silver like I wanted. The good thing is i really liked black better to start with and they have a black one exactly like i wanted inside on the showroom floor all gleaming, Im in love. Also good because now i dont have to wait 6-8 for a order, I can just get it that day. Now i have to hope it doesnt sell before friday, because I cant go over there til then. Moms gotta sign the papers, in only 16.:frown:

Yeah, that page is all off.
A) That pic is of a 90 or 91 Accord. The lower portion of the front bumper was shaped a little different for 92-93, a little more rounded from what I remember. (My friend back at school has a 93 EX)
B) As for those power ratings, they have to be off. I'm not saying the HP rating is necessarily off, but the torque is DEFINITELY wrong. They said 142 ft-lbs. Honda didn't produce a car with torque > horsepower untill Very recently. I believe it was in the new CRV. And then the Pilot.
C) WTF!!! You're 16! When I was 16, I was drivin my pop's friggin 89 Accord! Much props. You got a pimp ass ride to be so damn young. lucky bastard:iceslolan :biggrin2: :bigthumb:

Wowzers. I was 100% sure that tq had always been lower than hp up untill recently. I make no claims to be all-knowing. Well, yes I do:rolleyes: But I guess I may be wrong. Its just those figures seem like they should be wrong. I believe (if memory serves me correctly) that my 4cyl Accord F23a has only 132 lb-ft of torque to mate its beastly 150 hp.:bigthumb:

I know the V6 in my 02 Accord sedan is good enough to get up and go on the highway, but I can see how 40 additional horses would be of help. My wife and I take out a couple of the cars to just run against each other and with her driving one of the VR4s and me in the Accord, its surprising how well the Accord does - from a 30mph roll. The fact she doesn't know how to best drive the car probably helps some.
I've wanted to take an 03 out for a spin, but haven't taken the time yet. I am more interested in the navigation system then just the additional ponies.

Sounds about right for a split-second perfect run. I'm sure any Joe Schmoe would most likely run mid-low 15's though.

yeah ive been hearing mid 14's for the 1/4, and for the 0-60, 6.22 seems a little low, ive been reading 6.7 everywhere.

I don't get it! Every year, the accord seems to find like 30 or 40 extra horses! I am in awe at the fact that the C&D tests show the v6 accord running low 14s! That is awesome for a sedan, especially a honda sedan! I would have to say well choice in cars my friend! I like it!

Honda HAD to find some extra horses for this gen cuz Nissan had a lot of us Honda guys drooling over their new 240hp Altima and 255hp Maxima! Then they one upped Honda again by releasing the new 265 hp Maxima around the same time the 7 gen Accord was released. Now the Maxima has pretty much changed over into the Sport Sedan class as opposed to the Family sedan class it used to share with the Accord (IMO). Now the Accord competes with the Altima which used to be nowhere NEAR the Accord. I gotta hand it to Nissan, they really stepped up to the plate in 2001-2003. I don't like the styling of the new Maxima, but it sure can move!!!
Next, we'll see if Toyota can put some pep in the laxidasical -sp:confused: Camry.

Speed is only one of my considerations in buying a car. Id take a slower car if it was better looking and more comfortable any day of the week

My feelings weigh more on the performance side. I do wish I had power windows/locks though :frown:

My eyes definitely look harder at the numbers than the padding on the seats, but PW / PL are a convenience I think I've been spoiled on and can't go back. But I get so damn annoyed when my friend plays with the switches on his side!!! He'll roll his window all they way up at night, then keep flicking the switch up to make my headlights dim out for a second. It drives me CRAZY!!!:newburn: :screwy: And there's nothing I can do about it but yell or try to fight him, steer and shift at the same time. I dont know why I hang out with that bastard:shakehead

I think the low 14's belong to the 6 speed coupe, with low 15s going to the sedan.
