engine

i have a 1980 civic wagon with the original motor in it,i think it is a ej1 cvcc are they good motors? and is there a easy upgrade for these motors? i don't know the condition of the motor it hasn't run long it a few years probably need to change the timing belt at least,i have already changed the oil and did a tuneup.what is there weak spots? i only paid 300 bucks for the car and have put about 200 bucks into it so far. it is an illness for which there is only one cure death.
