Two weeks ago I had an egr code so I took off the egr valve cleaned it really good along with port to the intake. It was carboned up really bad. The car ran great for about a week and now it won't start again. Another mechanic told me it was the ignition control module. I replaced it and no change. If anyone can help I would be super appreciative. Thanks!

So it cranks over with good speed, but doesn't start?
Have you scanned for codes?
What year?
3.4 or 2.4?

2001 3.4L Olds Alero.
I had someone else (who does work on cars) watch the spark and he said it was not a steady spark and said it was a bad ignition control model so I replaced that and nothing changed.
I did have a EGR P0401 Code a couple of weeks ago but after taking it off and cleaning the valve and port the code went away and the car ran great. Now I'm not getting any codes.
Both times it died on me the engine was running, shut off and then wouldn't start back up.
Thank You

Ok, if no codes, then do the basics.....
When it won't start/stalls, have a can of carb cleaner handy.......when the car won't start, spray some carb cleaner into the intake.....if the car almost starts or starts and then dies, then you have a fuel delivery problem...either the injectors are not firing, or there is insufficient fuel pressure....
If it still doesn't start, or almost start, then check for for spark on all cylinders.....

Finally found the reason for my crank, no start condition. It is linked to the security system.

Did it start with carb cleaner?

No. For some reason the security system shuts the electrical system down partialy causing it not to fire correctly or start. It's been a very common problem with this model.
What we had to do is turn the key to the ACC position for 10 min or the security light on the dash stops blinking. Then turn the key off wait 30 seconds then start the car and it popped right off.
I never would have thought of that being the cause but it was. I appreciate your advice and keep this in mind for these GM models especially the 2001 Alero.

It should have started with the carb cleaner, and ran as long as you sprayed....The Security system has nothing to do with spark, only injector pulse....
You did not mention that the SECURITY light was flashing....

I have replaced my fuel pump fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator, not to mention my fuel pump relay switch. It cranks but won't start.....after replacing the fuel pump and all above listed parts the car ran for a weeks. Went and ran some errands, came home and went back out to go to work and the car would not start.....hella stumped on what to do next
I have done the reset with car in ACC for 10-15 minutes and nothing cuz the security light was flashing, its not anymore....so confused

First of all, shouldn't jump on another post....
Should start your own.....
Good place to start, is year, make, model, mileage, engine size.....
Complete explanation of all problems, and what was done in a chronological order....

I was looking for common problems with my Alero and saw the posts. Didn't know I had to be invited or create another post for similar concern.
Not sure how to navigate site, but now after being chastised for asking for assistance with similar concern, not sure if this is a reliable source.
