RC212V Repsol Honda 2011

Hi all ! I would like to build RC212V Repsol Honda ridden by Casey Stoner. The kit is from max's motomodeling. This is my first attempt on either resin kits or transkit. I would expect errors here and there, but I would try building this bike as best as I can. It would be a straight build though.
Okay, without further a do, here we come !

Since I dont have correct drill bits just yet, I did the cowling first.
First, I just snap fitted the resin. Max did a really good work here since it fits perfectly. I just need to puttied some scratches.

I should have been washing all the parts before getting started, but it was too late when I knew I would need to wash the parts before anything. Anyways, it turns out OK. The primer sticks well to the surface. I would just keep in mind to wash parts before do any resin kits. I superglued the side and bottom cowl, and epoxy puttied them.

I made hole on the front cowl as well. It is actually much easier than what I thought. Made holes with 0.8 bit drill, then trimmed using art knife, and sanded it.

Puttied some defective parts, fix the panel lines, etc. Seat cowl doesn't have hole on the left side, so I made one :D

Okay, that's it for now. Hope you enjoy as much as I do :)

Looks like the cast is really smooth and thin! I've never touched a MMM kit and will follow this with interest. You mostly seem the M1 transkits being made, a Honda is a nice change!

Hi Joel, thanks for your interest!
Yes, MMM seems to be producing a high quality garage kit, I think the amount of work of fixing things is very minimum :)

Hi guys, these are my progress..
Most of them are test fitting, puttying, and sanding.
*
let's start from the handle bar. It seems that the left hole on the handle bar is not fit with front fork set supplied by tamiya, so, a little drilling and trimming is required so the front fork fits well into the handle bar
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5349/14076689402_dac75f37ae_b.jpg
*
for the upper side, trimming is needed for the right part, because front fork doesn't seem to aligned well there. I think it's manufacture error, because I've seen a lot of build suffers the same issue. I trimmed using 1mm screwdriver :|
It looks horrible here, but, once I put front fork part, it will looks just fine.
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5518/13893220207_cd971aab04_b.jpg
*
creating hole on the frame, and hole to hold metal parts
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7322/14056738826_8da4e7bb63_b.jpg
*
puttied right side cowl because it doesn't have "pointy" end like the left one
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7197/14076688252_dac2b61704_b.jpg
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7194/14076662281_c5ccf79a20_b.jpg
*
when I tried to fit muffler to the engine and seat cowl, it won't fit ! adjustments are needed for them to fit.
Mufflers are trimmed, and holes on the engine are deepened

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5463/14056739186_b4c3c9d9e6_b.jpg
*
I also worked on the lines on the seat cowl. It was kind of "twisted" initially. I used epoxy putty to fix them.
finally the seat cowl looks okay, and fits with tail cowl well :)
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5495/14056743096_8795916f30_b.jpg
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5454/13893241738_ea5e2b3817_b.jpg
*
creating holes on the front cowl. I'm still wondering what's the best way to preserve the hole in the painting process. I think drilling would ruin clear layer, since it would be kinda thick layer so crack will appear. Any body knows the best way on this matter ?
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7370/13893264910_1b7b040d7f_b.jpg
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7340/14079847545_ceed0573b3_b.jpg
*
test fitting windshield
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5473/13893261390_fddc6b7bde_b.jpg
*
Anyone knows how to polish this part ? I should have used rubber gloves :(
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2923/14076656321_64de8131ae_b.jpg
*
I sanded the inner side of the front cowl, because initially, the windshield has a lot of difference in depth compare to front cowl.
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5471/13893229687_9b4a09d966_b.jpg
*
The nubs on the fender are cut and moved to correct position so they have the same height between left and right side.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7300/14056753456_e91289e858_b.jpg
*
and here is the test fit result. It consumed hell a lot of time, but I'm pleased with the result, so I'm okay with the time spent :)
Inputs, comments and criticism are well welcomed :D

I did the cowling this time. Repsol color is Mr.Color fluorescence orange and fluorescence yellow.
This color is really tricky since we cannot tell from the reference pictures (it varies a lot from one photo to the other !)

The first time, I thought the color was too orange and decided to clean the paint and repaint. These photos are my second attempt :)
Start with repsol colors, color build was difficult, patience is needed in spraying this color.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3927/15359759849_e067bf8333_b.jpg

Next is repsol red. Repsol red is fluorescence red + fluorescence yellow. I had just known that Max-san only used fluorescence red for this color. Beware that after spray repsol red, yellow will pop out a lot less.

Next step is spraying thin layer of clear coat. After that, I sanded the border between orange and red. Repsol decals are applied afterwards

Long story short, I soon realized that orange color is too light ! :(
I then bought hasegawa 250cc to see the orange color of the decals. My fear was correct, orange color should be a little bit orange !
I will strip the paint and order spare decal, and do the hard work once again :(

Thanks for your time !
c&c are well welcomed !

Hello guys, these are my updates.
It's all about repsol color this time.

after dissapointed on my previous paint work, I decided to strip the paint, and redo all paint works once again.
It's a difficult color (especially the orange one) because it looks really different from one reference picture to another.
For this reason, I bought Hasegawa's repsol kit just to match repsol orange on the decal, and it was worth it !
I finally be able to produce repsol color :)

I used many T2M rivets, especially the minus and hex ones. Unfortunately, I heard that T2M is closing down their business. Does anyone know alternatives I can use ?

hope you enjoy this update :)

Nice work, I admire your patience with the paint job on the cowls!
Some pictures from behind give the appearance that the swing arm is a bit skewed as the tire doesn't line up properly with the bike. Could be the photograph playing tricks with my eyes.
Lots of work with the details and it all looks super! Well done!

Thanks Joel.
You definitely have a sharp eye!
after assembling process had been finished, I realized that the rod that hold the bike to the stand is not aligned really well. It's not possible to redo that all over again since I was too burnt out:evillol: So I decided to let it flawed.
Had I a chance to build it again another time, I would cut the rod and change it with metal rod
