My neighbor has had a 1962 CJ-5 in his driveway for a long time. I has been covered, so it has been protected from the weather. He put a minor lift kit in it so it has new springs, etc. in it. It has the original 4-banger in it.

I once put a 280-Z engine in a BMW 530i, so I do know how to go about doing engine changeouts, etc. I have rebuilt several engines and a few trannies, so I have the skills to make this jeep into something good. What I don't have is the knowledge. I have owned a jeep or two, but have not really had them long enough to have to worry about doing much to them, and I certainly haven't brought one back from scratch.

So I am a clean slate open for suggestions. I do know that there are kits out there for putting Buick 231 c.i. engines in CJ's, but what are the chances of finding one of those? What about Toyota 22-R's? Is this an option? I am sure that many of you in here have done many projects like this and I am looking forward to learning from your experiences.

I currently own a 2013 Xterra Pro-4X. While it is a great vehicle, both on and off road, I want something I can tear up if needed -- something I am not afraid to get some Utah pinstriping on. (I am originally from Utah and grew up with 4X4's, rifles, snowmobiles, motorcycles, etc.) The company I work for has supplied me with a Dodge 2500 4X4, too, so you might say I just like something that allows me to get power to all four wheels. Anything you all can do to help me out will be more than appreciated. I will post project progress photos so those of you who help me out can see your suggestions in place.

Thanks in advance for your help...
