Pray he can't get it in. That will be so obscenely fast.....on second though, go for it. Pray he can't get it all to work, though, since 1g Beetles are deathtraps, especially the cabrio versions. Although, if by the grace of God he manages to get the beast running, put a huge-ass wheelie bar on the back....probably 4" steel tubing should work. And get wiiiiide rear tyres. R-compounds. Other than that, no real suggestions, but hold on tight.

They make a kit for this. Just buy the kit and put the 13B in. Very easy.

I say go for it! I just finished putting a turbo 13B into my Porsche 911. The high revving engine is a perfect match for the Porsche tranny. I might be a little afraid of putting a turbo in a bug if you plan on turning corners. When the boost hits it can be a little scary.
A good source for info is http://web2.airmail.net/atl/Rotary.html
He put a non-turbo 13B into a 914. It is an excellent site. He walks you through the entire conversion. My car is visible near the bottom of the page.
