Need help on 2 more mclarens....

The 1st is the car with the license plate "ND 4 4 4 4". There were pics of it outside what appears to be a warehouse, there was also a pic on kazaa that had the title of something like "mclaren f1 wallpaper" that had a pic of it from above. There was also a pic of a mclaren in the same black green tint ( i think) as the other one with the license plate "ND 4 44D". wether or not these cars are related or not is why i am asking you. any more pics or info would be appreciated.

The other car is the silver car that had hid lights fitted and is in the attached photos. i have no info on it whatsoever. altho, the website i believe it came off was a french site when a group of people set up camp on a hillside near a french hi-way and took pics of whatever exotic car that came by. on that site was also a pic of an orange car that had a hi-dwfc kit and someone (:loser: ) photoshopped it green and the pic went around the web quickly and people believed it was green. if anyone knows info about the 1st car mentioned (or the 2nd for that matter) or anyone who knows the site (i have been looking for it for AGES), can they tell me :biggrin:

look @ the headlights. they differ from standard road cars. they look similar to the ones i've seen on the modified ameritech cars. could it be one of the seven (or another imported car)?

Ok, I can answer all your questions in two posts...

The car with the license plate "ND 4 4 4 4" and with the license plate "ND 4 44D" is the same car - and it is XP5, even though it looks to be black. The photos were pulled from the video game "Need for Speed" (not sure which version - maybe V3) which featured the McLaren F1 as one of the car choices. The license plate on the photos that appear in the game reads "ND 4 SPD" but apparently someone took it upon themselves to photoshop the license plate so it would look like something else instead - who knows why??

The game people had actually photoshopped the plate themselves to read "ND 4 SPD" because otherwise it would have been wearing the "K4 MCL" or "K8 MCL" plates you usually see on XP5.

Though there are two silver HDF cars that I'm aware of, the photos you posted are all the same car. It was recently spotted at the Grand Prix of Monaco along with an F1 GTR painted Paypaya Orange - here's that picture.

I would assume that this car has never left Europe and never been in the hands of Ameritech, but maarten is right that the headlights are a unique design. It appears this car has a pencil-beam or HID lamp mounted on the outside, and a rectangular lamp on the inside to act as the high beam. Very strange - I have never seen that configuration on any other McLaren F1 that I can recall.

The other silver HDF car can been seen in the shots from the McLaren Cars factory on tvrfreak's website wearing the plate "049 PF" from a country I don't recognize.

BTW: I don't believe that Amerispec ever permanently modified the lights on any of the cars he was responsible for importing. There are some cars in the USA which feature HID's (like Dan Kennedy's) and I believe those changes were made by the McLaren Cars factory or possibly by the technicians at one of McLarens Authorized Service Centers. The interesting thing about those cars is they retain the large round lamp on the outside edges which acts as the high beam, and then the HID lamp is mounted on the inside and used as the primary driving light.

Nope - I sure dont. :(

I can confim that the Orange GTR is not #07R or #011R - which means that there is a third GTR that has been given the LM treatment, but I haven't a clue which car it would be.

As for the silver LM-kits, I don't know about either one of those. I do believe that both were late in the production run and were originally configured as HDF cars and not converted later on like some of the others we have seen.

Peloton,
In order to protect owners' privacy, McLaren covers up the actual plates and puts these funny-looking plates on the cars whenever they are brought in to the factory. It is not an official license plate from any country-just a cover and an identifier for McLaren personnel to refer to the car when at their premises.

Thanks for that piece of info. I noticed that most of the other cars in the shop are lacking license plates completely.

i have another clue on the silver hdfkit car.
it has the autographs near the chassis#plate.
look at the pic.

IIRC, somebeody knew which cars were signed, and then if we have the exact color, we may sort it out.

thanks for the pic but...thats not where the car was usually signed, that car has been signed after gordon murray signed the first 15 (?).

and also, is it me or is there something different about that steering wheel?

the dan kennedy mclaren (#037) features a similar wheel. on his mclaren, this wheel is detachable. so this might be a detachable one as well.
