'02 XCC70 jumbled information screen

I have an '02 XCV70 I just got from my brother. The information display screen in the instrument panel does not always display. Sometimes the letters are backwards or all jumbled up. I would like to start troubleshooting this but I'm not sure where to start.

I have no problem taking things apart. Any advice?
