No start, dead instrument cluster

I had a little trouble with the trusty Bonneville yesterday, on my way home from work I could swear I smelled wires getting hot or burning, It was bad enough I pulled over to look for smoke but couldn't find anything obvious, I made it home without any issues. When when I went out this morning, it wouldn't start, no clicks, nothing. the radio, dome lights and headlights all work but the instrument panel is completely dead, no back-light, no gauges, no idiot lights.
Any suggestions?
