Front popping then alignment off

if i turn sharp (turn wheel all the way) i hear a pop sound almost like a twang from the spring. Then when i drive straight the car will badly steer to the left or right. Eventually it will even out and the car will drive straight down the road. It sounds like its coming from the front left so i checked the spring and its not broken. But the boot cover over the half shaft is split all the way exposing it. So i wonder if the half shaft is bad. It also seems when im turning the wheel that it gets real difficult to turn farther i keep turning the wheel.

The split boot suggests the CV joint is bad. if the grease goes out and dirt goes in, it will ruin the joint. do you see splattered grease in that area? The other suspect may be the tie rod end. If you can move the tie rod end by hand, then it is likely too loose. Not sure how to confirm the CV joint. I have a shop do those for me ($250/side) because it can be a beotch getting the half axle out.
