One of the cheap and good mods is getting a midpipe (WAI-warm air intake) www.frankencar.com has some good stuff, unless you want to get CAI. There are 2 types of CAI, one that goes into the fender well (thats PlaceRacing CAI and most of other CAIs) second is Injen Racing division CAI which goes behind the radiator (with 1st type of CAI you are more likely to get more HP) Then get a y-pipe. If you dont want to spend alot of money get Budget y-pipe which costs around 230 canadian bucks (since its Canadian company) and in US dollars its around 167 bucks shipped. All other y-pipes like cattman and stillen are exactly the same thing just like budget one, only its waaaaay more expensive. Then you can get the cat-back, lighter pulley.

that sounds good...ill look into it...what would i need and how much do u think it would cost to get a manual transmission in their...and would a 222HP V6 Mitsubishi 3000GT engine fit in the maxima, cuz my buddy recked his and i would love to swap engines

3kGT is a RWD engine and it won't fit. i think your VQ engine is better anyway.

you definitely need an intake. i say cold air is no good on a 4th gen maxima. weapon-R promises 7.2 hp increase at the wheels and it's just a Warm air. that's like 10-12 hp at the crank. then a y pipe and maybe the rest of the exuast . and i wouldn't even get an aftermarket muffler with a ypipe, put on a 5th generation (00-03) Maxima muffler. A y pipe plus an exhaust makes for a pretty obnoxious car while stopping and starting, while you're cruising it sounds pretty nice, though.
a manual tranny swap will be expensive, but it'd be worth it if you want your maxima for racing purposes, unless you get a supercharger

no offence but do some research before asking silly questions like "would a 3000gt engine fit in a maxima".:spit:

Welcome Noobs>Killerbeez & Hazzard:

Give em a break Hazzard, anyway don't worry about asking stupid questions, I think everyone has done that here once or twice.

Congrats on the car and to make it a clear point the VQ is a much better engine than the Mitsu V6, even though it won't fit, the Mitsu engine on the stock Non turbo engine is weaker than our VQ's stock 5th Gen motor besides that Ward has picked our engine to be the best V6 in the world 10 years and running.

The only other things you can do to make your car/engine faster is to go with a TC/SC or N20. I've heard others adding a MEVI but I haven't seen anyone report of any gains on it as far as horsepower is concerned but I have heard of their ability to rev higher on the top end past the rev limiter.

Good luck though and welcome to the forum.

Here is a write up about the MEVI that I found on Maxima.org. Go there and do a search, there are plenty more.

i think a 5 speed swap will run you between 2 and 3 large with parts, labor...btw, learn to love MAXIMA.ORG, it is a maxima owners best friend. the search function will blow you away with all of the information it contains

Nope, 3000GT and 3000GT SL models are FWD and the VR-4 is AWD :thefinger

If it'll fit that would be a good engine, it gets good gains from Turbo's as I understand it. :iceslolan

You can fit any any engine in any car's bay, but it always will cost you pretty big pennie.

If i were going to swap engines, I'd do nissan for nissan. Anything else and I'd feel like I was disrespecting my car. Try the VQ35DE.
