Hi all,
while i cant work on other projects, i've started this one ive been planning on for a while
its a fujimi R32 gt-r nismo version, but not s-tune
(so it has group A/N1 bumpers, wings and side skirts)
its an ok kit but i thought i could improve on it with a few left over parts lying around......
what inspired me was i have a sticker kit for the nismo Z-tune which has similar graphics used on the nismo s-tune - which was a modified R32 from nismo in 2000, im not sure about the story behind it but it happened roughly 10 years after the r32 was first produced....pretty cool
anyway, i also had a spare set of nismo wheels from the tamiya R34 v-specII kit, and also made the Tamiya brakes fit as well so no fitment issues for the wheels now.
i modified the suspention a fair bit, not only to make the tamiya brakes fit and align to the guards correctly, but also lowered the right hight a little bit, just to where it probably should be on the std car. it was originally too high to start with, and to be honest i could have gone a little lower but its fine for this model. im happy.
now i know i need lots of pics to watch a thread so heres lots of pics!
first i set about correcting all the imperfections and fitting the body kit parts.
group A / N1 front bar has extra ducting

when wing is fitted after paint will look like this..

the group A / N1 kit also includes an intercooler which i was happy with, good thats one thing i dont need to scratch build!
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a558/Benk01/models/P7062070_zpsa7ceada4.jpg (http://s1283.photobucket.com/user/Benk01/media/models/P7062070_zpsa7ceada4.jpg.html)
the front suspension had the majority of the work, there is the set up without the brakes in place.
it uses the fujimi struts, lowered a little, with all new alignment which required new top mounting point, lower mounting point moved on strut itself and steering point moved as well

here you can see the original hole plugged and a new hole in a bit to allow clearance for new wider rims with different offset.

May I ask why you put a bit of putty on the top of the headlight area?

there was a fault in the molding of that area, actually the whole body was riddled with imperfections.
sorry this one came to a hault, i had two other models that i painted and they needed stripping so progess on all three WIP stopped.

heres some pics of it clear coated.
this is without any sanding/polishing, i'm considering just leaving this one as is....its not perfect but its good enough for me i think.
also i have lots of other stuff going so i really dont have the time to be fussy, i just want it done!
im very happy i painted it silver, it was really just painted silver as i could be bothered mixing anything special for it, as i was thinking about a gun metal grey or something slightly different.
silver just shows all the body lines of the R32 so well, so i couldnt be happier....

Yay an update! :D
I think it looks spot on, silver is a very common colour in 1:1 cars, yet some cars look their best in silver.
Personally I think you should just give it a little polish with course and then fine polish and it will be perfect :D
May I just ask something, how do you find airbrushing silver?
I had a little play with silver the other day with 4 spoons, with various methods and found that the spoon that I sprayed with a few medium to heavy coats looked an awful lot better than the spoon I did with about 8 mist coats. None of them were clearcoated but just the finish on the heavy (ish) one looked ten times better. I just wondered what the method was with the Skyline or if you have any tips and tricks so to speak?
Sorry for the long post I just find silver hard to get right as opposed to black, which is generally the hardest colour to spray!

hello
generally speaking you are correct, if you spay any metallic too light, the metallic flakes sit up higher on the surface or something, as the fleck is a lot more noticeable when only light coats are applied.
if med/wet coats are applied, then the metallic fleck is able to act more naturally and blend in nicely to the underlying coats.
but.....
this particular paint is a water based paint that takes a fair bit to dry (sometimes best using a hair dryer between coats, thats how slow it dries)
so it is a bit different to use compared to others that have more 'solvent' based thinners.
so, i actually spray this in fairly thin coats, otherwise it runs or the pigments kind of pool together, therefore it has a very un even distribution of the silver pigment/fleck.
luckily, with this one i can get away with a light/medium final coat as its a very very fine fleck.
i hope that makes sense

its been a while as ive been busy with other projects, but ive been able to get more done on this one.
i decided to scratch build a intercooler.
once the paint dries i will apply nismo decal
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a558/Benk01/models/IMG_3877_zpseb2ff852.jpg (http://s1283.photobucket.com/user/Benk01/media/models/IMG_3877_zpseb2ff852.jpg.html)
also finish off the exhaust, this consists of the std pipe but scratch muffler from
styrene plus a metal tip

interior done basically

all the decals applied, there were from the tamiya z-tune detail up set and were terrible. The quality was bad, i had to strengthen them with liquid decal film and they still fell apart.
i managed to salvage them to be ok, but i wont clear coat so i can replace them later if i decide to.

all the decals applied, there were from the tamiya z-tune detail up set and were terrible. The quality was bad, i had to strengthen them with liquid decal film and they still fell apart.
i managed to salvage them to be ok, but i wont clear coat so i can replace them later if i decide to.
brake caliper and wheel decals

That is an amazing looking paint job. Even better that it's an acrylic silver. You just inspired me to buy some.
