89 century speedometer quit working

yesterday my 89 century's speedometer stopped working. check engine light stays on. able to drive it yet but feels like it's in a lower gear. has no
get up and go. Tranny has been slipping from 2nd to 3rd for a while. I think it might be the speedometer sensor. any ideas? if it is the sensor will I get some power back?

What is the code?

Have see the VSS "apple cored" when removed from the tranny....located on end of tranny, on top, where the passenger side axle comes out...
