Can anyone explain, which engine (car) is better:

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (Asia Spec)
2.5L 16-valve intercooled turbocharged DOHC Common Rail Di-D (High Power (model 4D56)
2,477cc
Max output: 131 (178) /4,000
Max torque: 350 (35.7 /1,800-3,500
Electric Common Rail Direct Injection
5 speed (auto) INVEC-II with sports mode
With Car Weight: 2710kg
Diesel

Toyota Fortuner (Asia Spec)
3.0L 4cylinder, 16-valve DOHC Intercooler VN Turbo (Model 1KD-FTV)
2,982cc
Max output: 120 /3400
Max torque: 343/1,400-3,200
Common Rail Direct Injection
4 speed (auto)
With Car weight: 2510kg
Diesel

Thank You.

Both engines are very similar - since the Toyota engine is larger yet produces about the same power, that means that the turbo is smaller or produces less boost. Which in theory means it should be more reliable, but also means it may use more fuel. This is compounded by the fact that the Toyota only has a 4 speed transmission wile the Mitusibishi has a 5 speed.

Thanks drdisque really appreciate the reply.

So in other words?

In terms of reliable, toyota will be reliable because of having a "capacity" and produce less stress to produce the power. Hence built with low turbo boost. However, more fuel consumption will requires to produce "the power".

But on Mitsubishi with lesser "capacity", it is able to somewhat bring more power in theory as the turbo will be slightly working harder and stresses the engine thus; these mechanism are not reliable. However it will be more fuel efficient compare of toyota, so less fuel wastage.

Interesting! The Toyota car is actually having 65L capacity tank while the Mitsubishi having 70L.

In conclusion, performance ride, Mitsubishi is better? but Toyota is reliable.

Yes, you have the theory right.

Also, you'll note that the Toyota is 200kg lighter, so in practice, they may actually get similar fuel economy.
