OK these coilovers are CRAP! Help with new!

I'm done with this bullsh*t. The back doesn't fit in the perch. I'm done with coilovers. I need people's recommendation on a good set of Hatchback model specific drop springs that will give a good ride and good cornering too. I love the Illuminas and I am not changing those. I also have a set of ST bars coming and a lower rear tie bar ready to be installed. So what brand? what drop? Eibach, H&R, Intrax, ST?

Think I'm gonna go with the H&R sport springs. Tirerack.com has them for $156. Anyone have any input please?

Ive said this many times . . .If you want coilovers get the real thing & dont be fooled by shitty coilover sleeves.

The sleeves fit inside the spring perch on the stock struts but not on the Tokicos. I have the spring assembled a little differently than its supposed to. I did this this morning. It seems alot better now. No more sqeaks or banging. I'm still gonna get the H&R sport line springs though.

If your gonna buy coilovers do it right & get the full set. Dont be cheap and get the crappy kind, you'll be sorry down the road. Most shocks wont work with the crazy spring rates sleeve create.

It has nothing to do with the springs. I has to do with the threaded piece being to wide for Tokico Illuminas. They fit fine on the stock ones. Anyway got them working now but will order the H&R's this week.

It has every thing to with those springs. The threaded sleeve is part of the spring. Thats why you should stay away from sleeve type. Shocks were designed to fit & work with standard springs, lowering or stock, not a threaded collar under a spring. :mad:

Right you corrected yourself. The spring is fine. The rate is not too stiff. Its the threaded sleeve. Do we need to cover this more? The same spring and a thinner sleeve would be ideal. No matter, they are getting brought to the swap meet anyway and some other sucker can work them out. I did mention they work and fit with the stock struts right?

Oh lord - lower that baby all the way & you tell me the spring rates arent to high. Lowered cars & stock shocks = NO GOOD, they not gonna last for long. Not to mention how shitty the performance will be. Just because it looks like race doesnt mean it handles like one. If you want it to handle like a race car dont expect a smooth ride, you get one or the other or some where in between

The threaded collar IS part of the spring, its not just the collar, its the whole damn POS spring that is giving problems & will continue down the road.

When I say stay away from sleeve type adjustable coils, Im only trying to save people $$$$ & a headache!

It had nothing to do with money and all to do with adjustabilty. True coil overs are over kill for the street. I wanted to be able to set my own wheel gap and not have to hope everything looks ok. That's now what I'm up against.

Oh, I know that. I have only mentioned that a few too many times. Im glad to see some one is picking up on it.:wink:


Anyways, one of the most misunderstood & financially wasteful suspension items is "coil-over" springs. Most cars on the road today have a coil-over suspension(struts). When you think coil-over think fully adjustable spring/shock package, not just springs!

I like the Tokico Illuminas better than the AGX's and I got H&R springs.

Why not ground control or eibach sportlines? And yes I also have (illumias)tokico> My setup is gc with illumias and works great and handles better!!!!!!

Coilovers are not over kill for the street, in fact in many ways someone who is more serious about tuning a suspension finds it much more ideal than piece mealing together suspension parts.


x shock is not created to work in harmony with x spring and x vehicle.

Most quality kits remove those factors, and create a solid setup, that rides comfortable, is balanced, and can be corner weighted.

Most of your Street coilover kits have spring rates that are surprisingly low.

Anyone however who does not know the how and why a suspension works and can't identify, what the following terms are should rethink doing anything to the suspension


pitch
dive
squat
corner weighting
corner weighing
compression
rebound
spring rates
camber
caster
toe
alignments

At the very least understand that before slapping on an adjustable suspension, before you are in over your head and wasting money on something you have no idea on how to set up.
