Idle surges from 800 to 2000 on its own

I would just start the car and the idle would go from 800 to 2000 to 800 to 2000.... Non stop and on its own.
In my case, it was the iacv. Fairly easy fix. You do need to take the throttle body out as the iacv is underneath it. About a 1 hr job. Make sure to replace the throttle body gasket and iacv gasket. Some threads suggest to try cleaning the iacv. I'd suggest replacing it..... Mine had no apparent damage or carbon build up.... But yet it was faulty.
The car now idles very nicely and me happy about it.
