I've seen pictures, and a Tamiya model kit, but I've been hard pressed to find any more info on it.
I think it was produced in '93, and it weighed way less than the regular version.
Can anybody point me towards some decent info and/or specs (and more pix)?.

That's supposed to be in Japanese. If you use IE, you can right-click and change "Encoding," if you have any Japanese text support installed.
Or, you could read it here: http://www.honda.co.jp/INTEGRATYPE-R/spirit/issue2.html
Thanks.

"The public road of course regarding the circuit because there was a passion where is hot to the car making which had the preponderant efficiency which you can be absorbed to the joy of working very, saying the NSX-R was born 30 years later, is not overstatement. HONDA did not limit the first step of the beginning to 4 wheels and, advanced hotly. Therefore very HONDA was HONDA, it became the manufacturer which produces TYPE R. "

I just got the model kit from Japan last week.
From the Tamiya Kit No. 24126 instruction sheet
Starting as a motorcycle manufacturerback in 1948, the Honda Motor Company has been highly successful in demonstrating their superb automotive expertise in both commercial and Grand Prix races. During the 1989 Chicago show, onlookerswere in awe as Honda debuted their NSX sports car. The latest in automotive technology, blended with Honda's racing experience has been introduced into this totally new sports car. Weight savings and aerodynamics were top priority during its research and development stages. This was accomplished by keeping the vehicle as compact as possible and utilizing various aluminum alloys. The body shell, suspension system and chassis are fabricated from aluminum. At the end of 1992, Honda released a spartan version of this high performance sports car and designating it the NSX-R. The transverse mounted 3 liter V-6 cylinder powerplant underwent refinement through use of titanium parts allowing it to further improve response while running at higher RPM. The double wishbone suspension system which was initally designed for sport-driving underwent extensive tuning at racing tracks like Nurburgring, Germany, in order to increase handling potential of the NSX-R. The cockpit is race oriented with Momo made three-spoke steering wheel, solid titanium shift knob, and racing bucket seats fabricated from carbon/aramid composites. The NSX-R can be described as Honda's answer to the driving public seeking "agressiveness."
(you can tell some of that didn't translate perfectly from the original Japanese)
I think I'm going to paint mine Championship White, but it also came in:
Berlina Black
Charlotte Green
Sebring Silver
Kaiser Silver
Indy Yellow
Formula Red
Neutron White
Grand Prix White

The key concept guiding the development of the new NSX-R is "evolution and strength". As the first to benefit from Honda’s greatest achievements on the racing circuit, the NSX could almost be called the original TYPE R, and Honda has once again boosted its sporting spirit. A major factor in the NSX’s premium handling and performance is the lightweight aluminum body, and for the new model carbon fiber and other ultra lightweight materials have been used wherever possible for even lower weight. In addition, the revised craftsman-built interior further accentuates NSX-R’s sports credentials.
Major equipment: • Carbon fiber hood air outlets • Carbon fiber rear spoiler • Carbon fiber engine compartment cover • MOMO genuine leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel • RECARO carbon fiber Aramid bucket seats • Type R dedicated 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels • 215/40ZR low profile tires (front), 255/40ZR low profile tires (rear)
Specifications: • Overall length/width/height: 4430mm/1810mm/1160mm • Wheelbase: 2530mm

It's hard to find the information since we can't read Japanese. However I think no more than 500 original Type R were sold. NSX have 215ZR45 16" Front and 245ZR40 17" Rear.

I was under the distinct impression that Type-R simply ment that particular Acura vehicle had a limited slip differential in it
such as the Type-S simply means it has a system f some sort that lets air pass in such away they get more HP for the same fuel usage (pretty amazing in a physics sort of sense)
its something a non-car guy could be impressed with, the Type-S
