changing transmission

The trans in my 2001 Century needs changed, I found one for $300. I am not able to do the job myself, because no room where I live, but garage says they will do it for around $350 in labor. I was just wondering if before the transmission I buy goes in if I should put new solenoids in it?

Putting in a used tranny, is a crap shoot at best....you have no idea of the history of it....you possibly could be replacing one problem for another.....
In most cases, a junkyard may keep track of the mileage on the tranny......
When a used tranny came into the shop, we gave the customer the option of replacing all seals(both axle and converter), draining tranny and converter of old fluid, replcaing the fluid/filter and replacing the valve body with new solenoids, before installing in the vehicle....
About the only thing you can check on a used tranny, is get the mileage from the recycle yard(most are reputable), and check the condition of the fluid in the pan(if dark, has lot of clutch material or god forbid metal(either chunks or flakes), don't put it in the vehicle)....this should be done before upgrading any parts....
