the cruise will not work because the brake lights are constantly on, without touching brake pedal. Is there a fix for this, or do I have to take to the shop?

It's a normally closed switch so you need to check the switch for proper mounting on the brake pedal lever.

Actually, it is normally open, but if out of adjustment like Delta says, it can keep your lights on......this can happen, if you accidentally pull backwards on the brake pedal with your foot.....this pushes it out of adjustment, and keeps the lights on......with the brake pedal released, look at the plunger on the switch, if it is extended at all, it. is out of adjustment.....it ratchets into place....just push and rotate it so the plunger is not extended on the brake pedal.....if it is not extended, you need a new switch...take care of this right away or your battery will die on you....

The switch itself, out of circuit is normally closed. It's the mounting on the brake pedal arm that keeps it open.

Not picking on you DeltaP......just a matter of semantics......it's normal state is open.....when the switch is activated, by pushing the brake pedal, it becomes closed.....
If you consider the normal state of the switch out of the vehicle, then it's the opposite....

Yeah, six of one... a half dozen of the other.
