1997 Grand Prix GT N/A. 175,000. I keep getting this code about once every two weeks. I'll clear it and doesn't come back until then. I've had passengers in the back seat smell gas so I'm suspecting the vapor canister. Would a leaking canister set this code off? I checked all the vacuum lines to the purge solenoid and seem fine. Is the canister in the drivers side rear wheel well? I need to get in there and check if it's leaking. I'm having no driving issues however my gas consumption seems to be a bit more than usual. I checked the FPR and no fuel contamination. Thanks in advance. Somehow I wrote this in tips and maintenance, please delete that.

In order to detect incorrect purge flow, P0441, there is usually a purge switch next to the purge flow valve....

If the purge valve is commanded open, then the evap line is exposed to vac from the throttle body.....this will suck the gas vapors from the gas canister....when there is flow, this creates a low pressure in the vac switch and causes it to open.......But if the computer commands the purge solenoid open, and it sees the vac switch still closed, the computer thinks there is no flow and sets the code....

There are a number of things that can cause this....bad PCM(rare), open circuit to the purge solenoid, bad purge solenoid, bad vac switch, shorted circuit to the vac switch, an open in the evap lines, leaking canister, open vent valve, etc.

Any open, anywhere in the circuit, will cause a vac loss when the purge opens, and that vac switch will remain closed and set the code....

First step is a visual inspection, at wire connectors and vac lines at the purge solenoid and vac switch...the engine has a plastic cover, and mice like to build nests under there and eat the insulation off wire harnesses....

Thanks Tech II. It was my purge solenoid. Bought a OEM for $21.00. code has not returned..I was so afraid I would have to chase down the problem. So far so good!
