1997 eclipse RS 5th gear problems

all other gears shift perfect but when I go to put it in 5th every now and then it grinds and pops around in there. I have to hold it in 5th to keep it from popping out.. my buddy said put gear box fluid in there but I think it might be a bent shift rod or something idk help me out
