Front Seats

Really stupid question from newbie. Motor on driver seat went out. Can't find replacement. Is stuck so far forward that I can't get in, let alone drive. Can I just switch the manual passenger sear over to the driver side and let my passenger worry about fitting? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
