Saab Blowing Lights Like Crazy!

Hello -

My Saab has a bad problem of blowing lights regularly. In the past 6 months the headlights/high beams have blown 5 times, the brake lights twice, tag lights and 1 side marker. I bought it used and the previous owner has an equalizer installed but I do not use it. Also when had the radio installed, it works off a switch that runs to the cigarette lighter. If I turn the car off, I then have to flip the switch in order for the radio to turn off or my battery will die. I see where he had wires run from the battery to feed this. I'm not saying it's the cause but could it be? What other things can I check? Voltage regulator? Alternator? How?

Thanks for your time.

Was the radio installed at a shop or was this DIY? It sounds like you found your problem - any way to find all the wiring that was added? i would bet if you where to remove the wiring for the EQ and the radio that it would solve your problem. don't just go cutting wires and a probably a good place to start would be to just unplug them both and see how it goes.

What year/model SAAB by the way? most if not all the lights are controlled by the information display.

check the voltage at the battery when its running, if the voltage is over 15 volts thats probably why the lights are blowing out
