so we just bought this escape, and found out the crazy price for new keys. has anyone come up with a way to cheat or disable this system? i guess for those of you that live in big cities, you have to worry about your car getting "jacked" at any point and time. but out here in the sticks, it seldom happens. between all of us, we usually have 7 keys for each vehicle. and buying and having all of them programed, is several months car payments. and that is plain ridiculous.

Do what I do, leave the keys in the cars at home--then who ever needs it can drive it-- instead of giving each person a key-- since you are in the sticks this will not be an issue--I would be totally upset if someone took the keys out of one of my cars while parked at home-- keys always stay with the cars or trucks, and there is never a problem...take them out when you park in town- but leave them in ignition at home-- makes for a less crowed key ring as well...

A good dog will let you know if a stranger pops by....

that could be a good idea, IF i could get my wife to EVER lock a door. i keep the doors locked in my car, with the keys inside, and just use the remote to get in to it. the big reason i do that is to stop any kids from taking it. my vehicle is a stick, and i can only imagine how much damage they would to to the clutch and gears since only about 10% of the kids nowadays even know what a stick shift car is. but she is oblivious to everything. she would not even lock the doors of the house, EVER. but having 2 young kids in the house, i want to make sure they do not get out, as much as anyone may want in. if a person truly wants in, your hardly ever going to be able to stop them. but you can keep most people out with just a little effort.

i had another idea, is there a way to have this "feature" turned off, or disabled? seems like that should be able to be done with a laptop or programming tool of some sort.

More crap RAMMED DOWN OUR THROAT THAT WE NEITHER WANT, OR NEED. all in the name of lightening our wallet. they might as well just stand at the door when you b uy a vehicle, and say, "give us your wallet, when we have taken enough of your money, we will give it back".
