2001 Olds Bravada - Starting Issues

Please help-bought this 2001 Olds Bravada brand new-love it. We have a small auto repair and tire shop. We have always maintained it well. Back in October it was parked for a few days and would not start. We changed the coil and it was fine for a short time, then the same problem. We changed the coil pack, ignition module and the wiring harness for the coil pack. Now, it is like every six weeks we need to change the coil-we have bought the coil from different suppliers thinking that would help-which it hasn't. Ignition was changed prior to this problem developing. Any ideas?? I do not want to get rid of this vehicle but need it to start. Thanks for any ideas.

Are there any trouble codes or pending codes present?

The only code that comes up is an evap code which is P0440 but nothing relating to the starting issues I am having. This really has us stumped, if it starts, it runs great. Thanks for any ideas.

Can we assume when it won't start you checked for spark at the plugs and there was none?

So you have replaced the ignition module, harness, and the coil......and you have changed the coil how many more times? This all started after you replaced the ignition switch?

Maybe try OEM parts?

Have you checked the cap, rotor, and ignition wires?

When you have no spark, did you check for a triggering signal from the PCM, and also for a switching signal from the ICM when the vehicle did not start?

If you did not, then it's possible there was an intermittent problem, and not the coil or ignition module.....

We did check for fire at the plugs and there was none. Today we received an ignition module from the dealer, will try dealer parts and see what happens. Have not checked the pcm or icm- thanks for the suggestions but when we replace the coil, it will usually fire right up. Thanks for all the help and the schematic. I will try to report back next week when we have had a chance to work on it. Enjoy your weekend!

"but when we replace the coil, it will usually fire right up".

Check primary wiring and connections to coil. Then check components, cables and connections in secondary. Maybe just a bad coil wire to distributor and/or the cap and rotor.
