Hello All,
First post. I have an awsome '89 Maxima GXE. Only had 34500 original miles on it back in Aug. of 2001 when I bought it. Now has 55k. Not bad for a 14yr. old car! Nice blue-silver with digital-dash, auto air, BOSE, sunroof, HUD, the works. Sorry for the splurge, just haven't got to share with anyone appreciative yet. Anyway, to the point. I loved the 160hp when I first got it. Hadn't ever had a sporty car before. Then I added a warpspeedperformance y-pipe, generic Pop-charger intake, and front-strut-tower-brace bar. Needless to say, I'm into moding my machine:cool: ! BUT! I want it to kick in the pants! I was wondering, besides the usual (CAI, Full exhaust, hotter plugs/wires/ignition...), if I could swap a stronger engine in there (like a VE30DE) or add a turbo, etc. Of course, I would hate to waste a nice low mile engine like mine, but... Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can turbo anything, but it's not cheap.
Check out:
Cams
ECU
And for Pete's sake, upgrade your suspension before you put down too much power. Power is nothing without control.
(Forgive me if you already have springs/dampers, but you didn't mention them  )
