I just ordered an AEM cold air intake for my 2003 SpecV. Is that going to take in water and screw up my engine. If so what should i do. If anybody has this intake let me know how it is. Thanx

it will only suck in water if you completely hydrolock it...meaning you have to submerge the ENTIRE filter underwater....meaning you have to be driving through a freakin lake. The filter will get wet but that's no problem. If you are worried about hydrolock, however, you can get a bypass valve that will prevent the engine from sucking the water all the way up and screwing itself royally, I think they're pretty cheap.

You don't have to worry about hydrolocking. I've had my Injen on for months and never had a problem. It rains like hell here during the summer.

thanks i just wanted to make sure because it said on the AEM site that the bypass valve wasnt made for my car which i thought i was, i dunno that confused me.

They actually don't make the bypass valve for the spec v's intake system

speaking of intakes, how much hp do they increase? What about headers or a big exhaust?

Intakes - between 3-6 at the most.
Headers - 12-16hp, usually in the lower range
Exhaust - 2-4hp

Those are the typical numbers I've seen. Check www.b15sentra.com, it gets a lot more traffic than this site.

Don't be sending people away from this fine site.

Really though... It's

www.B15sentra.net

another good one is ...

www.TheVBoard.com

Lot's of info on those boads. I am member of both, but I enjoy conversation much more on this board.

Whoops. It's better to be informed and less ignorant. Make better purchases that way.

nismo sells a intake and it does a have bypass valve on it already. They claim it has a 8.5 hp gain at wheels.

Nismo makes two proformance headers for spec one with cat and one with out. I dont remember prices off top of my head but the hp gain at wheels was like 16 with out cat and 8 with cat

If you are still looking for the Nismo intake, I just picked one up online at
http://nissanperformance.net/nismo/ for $239.00. They also have all the rest of the r and s tune parts nismo currently makes at about 20% or so less than the actual catalog prices. Hope this helps.

AEM and Injen make nice intakes, Nismo is alright but most of it is way overpriced

That they do (even though AEM's aren't really all that cheap). It just seemed that the original poster of the discussion was interested in Nismo. The actual bonus is that if their car is new, most nissan dealerships will still honor the warranties on the car (if any still remain) since nismo products are still considered factory parts.
