Fuel pump quit

Yup, had just got handed my happy meal, at the drive thru and the motor quit.
I noticed the fuel pump was silent.
Tried restarting, the motor stumbled then quit. Swapped relays but it didn't help.
I always thought it would run poor but limp home.
I wasn't too far from home so the roll back ride wasn't too bad.
The fuel pressure has been on the low side of spec/50psi the last 3 years, so I'll start pricing Delco pumps now.

a lot of money for Delco every one that I had died 4 total always died 1 car was off and would not start never while running

Seems like the '97 gave a low pressure code and upon checking, it was down around 60psi but still ran. Because it was my load leveler's car, I got on it right away, enlisted some help and replaced it the next day. It was totalled a coupla years later:crying:
On the '92, I ordered the pump from Jegs so it'll be here the next day or 2 then I'll change it out saturday.

First off #1, I recognize this job is small taters to you Pro's, so I'm reporting this on behalf of the rest.
Changed out the pump this afternoon. Upon making all the connections, I turned on the keyswitch but got no pump run. Connected the old pump to 12 volts and it ran but it ran crappy, vibrating and jerking.
I checked the service manual and found that the 15 amp ECMB fuse powers the fuel pump. The fuse was blown which means the 3-4 amp pump was burned out so bad it popped a 15 amp fuse. Will finish up tomorrow and report all the results.

I'm with fishfind, mine never failed while running, they always failed on start up. With a full tank of fuel. Every time. Once in the gas station after fueling up even. I now have roadside protection and towing through my insurance company, two bucks a month and well worth it.

$2 a month sounds cool.
Finished the job this morning.
Put a coupla gallons gas in it, turned the key switch On and let the pump cycle 3 times then started the engine. It missed a little, I guess getting all the air out of the system.
Stopped the engine, checked the gas tank fuel fittings...dry:smokin:, then finished installing the fuel tank.
Checked the fuel pressure, 55psi with the engine idling and 52psi with the engine and pump off....held it too.
Went for a short ride and everything sounds fine.

I got the roadside and towing after my teenager ran out of gas on the freeway and added it to all the cars. They are losing money on her but the Bravada has only needed to be towed that once.

I'm sure you explained the bad karma from running one out of fuel.
You can add one more....fuel cools and lubes the fuel pump, no fuel and the pump starts eating itself up.

LOL, the load leveler got the gospel after the second pump failure but the daughter is still too smart to connect the dots. Remember when we knew it all and wouldn't listen? That's her.
