SOHC Vtec

My car is almost dead so I decided to swap it. Since I'm on a budget I thought I'd go D-series vtec. To those of you who have Vtec D16 swaps, how are they, are they worth the money? Also how much did you guys pay for your swaps? I know it's nothing like a B-series swap but money is tight, so tell me what you guys think.

its great for the money.

definitley one of the better d-series swaps you can do ... if you dont have an SI however, most people reccomend going with the d16z6 (92-95 civic ex) over the d16y8 (96-00 civic ex) due to less wiring headaches

actually, now that i've had some time to think about the swap, i would/'ve rather had a d16y8 simply for the fact that the OBD0 distributor goes right on. its not that the distributor hack is THAT hard or anything, it just would've been less of a pain in the ass if it just bolted right on.

yea the dizzy is cool although there is very little adjustment. BUT as you know honda likes to change the impedance (sp?) of injectors every few years....so, there is a slight issue there. there isn't enough info out there to clear up some grey areas where the z6 has been done many times...many info site avalible.

1st off i bought my motor for 600, i have an si so i used maily the parts i had got a new clutch and such, and i have the fields vtec controller and i love it

deff better than the a6 and i did the install myself so that was free, where are you located in md?

and my dizzy bolted right on the right way with the 1 bolt and washer it doesent leak or anything

I live in White Marsh near the Mall. What should I expect to pay for the motor, A6 tranny and anything else I'll need for the swap? Also, how much should I expect to pay for the labor? I don't know if I'll be able to swap it myself. Thanks.

labor should be $500 or less....depending on location

si tranny 200-300
wiring (jumper) conversion ecu harness $150
p28 ecu (92-95 Si/EX)
92-95 d16z6 $300-500 or 96-00 EX d16y8 $500-900+

you can skip the conversion harness and ecu and substitute with 88-91 Si (pm6) ecu and a rpm activated switch (for vtec controller)

Okay thanks. There is a shop near me that swaps Hondas all the time, so I'm going to give them a call. I'm really looking forward to swapping my car, my D15 just doesn't cut it anymore.

dont be suprised if its an outrageous price, shops around here quoted me like 1700 i believe for the sohc vtec installed.....i saved myself about 850 bucks doing it myself and it wasent that hard
