My mom is a one year breast cancer survivor :) Tomorrow she is going in for some minor exploratory surgery to make sure it didn't spread. We will be at the hospital bright n early tomorrow...so I may not be on til later in the afternoon. I'm gonna call it a nite a little earlier tonight so I can be bright n cheery (yeah right!)when that alarm goes off at 5:30.

It's a little late, but what's one more prayer?

Good luck, and I hope that everything turns out just fine.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Unfortunately, we went in this a.m. and they had her all prepped and ready for surgery, but her bloodwork came back and the dr. said her blood was too thin to risk operating. She's on blood thinners for diabetes. So rather than risk anything ugly they postponed her surgery...so I went ahead and came in to work.

Sorry to hear that. When are they planning to go ahead with the surgery then? What hospital is she staying at?

As of now she doesn't have a new date set yet. It is an outpatient procedure, so if all goes well she would be coming home an hour or 2 after the procedure. It's a little "sirgicenter" beside Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital in Glendale.

KatWoman:

My prayers are with you and your mother. :)

We are supposed to get the results of my wife's biopsy next week. I can relate to the fear.

Tireburner sorry to hear about your wife...I will pray that her results are good :) It's a scary thing. My mom is recovering nicely now (she was diagnosed last summer). This past summer my sister got it at a young age (38) and is now going thru chemo. I am 27 and not too far away from the age of risk. I have made some changes to lower my own risk like improving my diet and exercsing more.

I know. Cancer scares the hell out of me. I used to work in the cancer ward of a hospital in Sydney and the patients that came in just seemed to get younger and younger every year. Some as young as 22!!! It was and still is, very depressing. :(

My cousin (whose 14) has a form of cancer (i forget what my grandparents and uncle said it was), its gotta be scary :(

KatWoman:

I wish they knew better the causes. Some doctors feel it's heriditary, others feel it's diet and lifestyle...

If it's heriditary, your blood line sounds like my wifes.. Grandmother, mother, sister, it's just working it's way down the line.

If it's lifestyle, I'm not sure what else she can do. She works out 3-5 times a week, won't eat the nasty foods I like, etc... the doctor did suggest she give up caffeine, which of course is next to impossible.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and you mother. :)

How did it turn out? I hope all is well. My aunt had surgery to get rid of breast cancer a few years ago and it hasn't reared its ugly head since. I know its a scary thing for everyone involved, but it sounds like shes a strong lady and has this thing licked.
