Hello my name is Atris I am new to these boards and I am also new to street racing. I have been saving up for some time now and I was wondering the same things "What car should I get?" I was browsing July's SuperStreet magazine and I noticed a 3 page fold out of a Dodge SRT-4 and I thought it looked dope so I have spent the past couple days studying up on it and I think it is going to be a promising car.

It comes stock with a 2.4 liter turbocharged intercooled 4 cylinder that puts out somwhere in the range of 210-225 horses which isn't bad for being stock. You know they are going to make aftermarket turbos and larger intercoolers for it which are going to be must haves then theres the basic bolt ons exhaust, intake, and what not.

What do you Veterans think?, any input would be greatly apprciated. Thanks for your time.

If you ask me, the SRT-4 is the best value out there right now. Less than $100 per horsepower, which is pretty awesome. I've seen and heard a bunch of them driving around here, they look and sound pretty mean.

If you want bang-for-the-buck with a used car, get a Mustang LX 5.0 (arent't you glad I said that, SVT?:thefinger).

For a new car, you can't do any better than the SRT-4 for now. Just remember the spirit of the old Dodge turbo-4s...speak softly, but carry big boost. It seems some of the recent SRT-4 owners are getting carried away with the exhilaration of owning a car that is already fast, and claiming questionable wins, and carrying an attitude against other cars...especially the import ones. They don't realize that it's these cars that paved the way for the production of their current "baby".

Yes these are good questions, but at the same time there very broad.
Everyone has a different opinion of what cars are good for street racing and what car a newbie should get. Go to www.car-stats.com to look up some cars 1/4 mile time's. recearch the cars that look appealing to you. now, here are some of my oppinions. If you are looking for a slightly older import that you can mod to make pretty quick and fast around courners go i would get a eagle talon TSi, eclipse GSX, nissan 240sx, or a toyota MR2 turbo. There are allot of other options out there though. If you do want to go fast for cheap i would also reccomend the mustang 5.0.. sighs... you can put almost nothing in them and have them run 10's..again sighs.. :frown: i personally do not like them but if your goin for speed go for it. Also a 90's firebird or camaro. Or if you do have some cash get an old camaro or firebird and drop a hemi in it... i dont know much about this though

that just my 2 cents hope it helps... make sure you receach allot there are a ton of good cars out there... and as i have found out, just when you tink you have the car for you another one pops up that looks a little better.

No, I wouldn't say that the early Turbo Dodges paved the way. Dodge was turbocharging engines in the late 70s. They started paving the way for the spot compact market long before any of the imports did.

Of course, you WOULD say that Poly...lol.

What I mean is, although the old turbos paved the way for the technology and the concept, the SRT-4 will NEVER have been put into production if it weren't for the sport-compact-car craze...which made Dodge see the light that there is a market for such a car.

Remember when the Japanese swore that the Evo and the WRX will never make it here due to "crash regulations" concerns? Same thing.
