Just got in an accident...

I was heading to class this evening and a big Ford truck with dualies smashed into my left side as he attempts to change lanes. Apparently he didn't see me in the monster truck. Lucky, no one was hurt. My side view mirror was decapitated and the whole side of the G20 was scraped. The drive door suffered the most damage, now I can't even roll my window up. The driver of the truck was given a ticket because he's at fault. Now, my question is: do I call my insurance and go through them or do I call the driver of the truck's insurance company? Anyone have any idea how much it cost to paint the whole driver side of the car?

Thanks,
G20er

Damn man... sorry to hear about your ride getting busted up. :( The postive here is atleast no one got hurt.

to answer your question. I dont own a G20, but I can say its going to be quite expensive to get it done well. Id phone your insurance co. and tell them whats going on, im not 100% sure on the procedure here. Also depending on how old ur ride is, the paint may not match "exactly", although it can be real close if done by a pro shop with the right equipment.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Well the good thing is that he got a ticket, and a police report was made, so you will be completely compensated by his insurance. You can go about this a couple of ways.

1) Call him personally and ask if he has filed a claim with his insurance yet. If not, tell him to do so within the next day or so. Get the number of his insurance company at this time. This is to check up on him. If he files a claim, then one of his insurance adjusters should call you up. Then they should inspect the damage and show you an "estimate" of what it will take to fix it. You should be looking around for a body shop that *YOU* want to go to. Then take it there, they will do the work, and bill the insurance company.

2) If you have collision you can file a claim through your insurance company, pay the deductible (if you have one) and then your insurance company will bill the other party's insurance.

3) You can sue after you pay it yourself.

Remember too, that they owe you a rental car similar to your class. Also dont let the other insurance company cheat you...give them grief! They are trained to make you feel bad and ask questions and whatnot...trying to get you to skimp on less...be prepared for them to take a verbal statement of the accident from you...and dont give them ANY information that they didnt ask, just be very straightforward. Keep it simple stupid :)

I just got thought the same crap.

When it happened I called the cops and they came by and filled out a police report and gave the lady that hit me a huge ticket.
I exchanged info with the lady and left.

Next day I stoped by my insurance and had them enter all the details into their computer in case the other company didn't pay.

I then got a call from the other insurance company and they said they would pay and they gave me a claim #.

I went to my body shop and they gave me an estimate and sent the estimate via computer to her insurance. I made an appointment when to bring my car in because they were about 2 weeks full of cars to work on. When I brought it in the rental car came and picked me up.

A month later I drove back to the rental car place and they gave me a ride back to the shop. I picked up the car and that was it.

Oh yeah one more thing. One new door + one repaired door + one repaired quarter panel = $5000

Rental car was = $600

 ...the curse again

Sorry to hear about you G, I hope you get it all fixed up and sorted out.

I'm sure your insurance company will sort it all out once you have seen them and filled out the report.
Goodluck.

Man that sucks I hope you don't have to many hassles getting your ride fixed. It sounds like everyone else gave some good advice about the insurance claims the only thing I can add is make sure you go to at least three body shops for estimates and look at there work, also ask any one you know in your area who might have used one of these shops how there work is you don't want some idiots messing up your repairs and have your car come back looking like crap.

My dads cavalier (not quite a G20:D ) got hit by a heavy-duty dodge in September. He phoned his insurance company, told them the other guys insurance company and his name, and basically it took care of itself. If your car is written off (its always possible), dont take their estimate. Go to kellys blue book (http://www.kbb.com) and use their numbers, we got an extra $300.

If you need to get a quote for the damage, I suggest you go the Infiniti dealer. They will quote you a very high amount and with any luck the insurance (his) will cut you a check.

I recently got hit and was got a qoute as low $1000 to fix my G. Then I was told by friend to go to a dealer and get a qoute. The dealer Quote was $2100. A week later I got a check for $2200 from the guy's insurance company.

I plan to do most of the repairs myself and modify my G with the extra money.

Hey now, I resent that! ;) I'm a good driver (*knocks on wood*--haven't been hit with the curse as of yet :D ). And I'm often coaxed into being DD! :silly2:

Sorry to hear about your car, though... :( I hope I never have to face that.

All is well. I got my favorite bodyshop to do an estimate on the damages and the other driver's insurance company has agree to pay for it :) After finals is over, I can get G fixed.
