Etched brake discs are here!

Arrived today, these are the etched Brembo brake discs I designed, what seems like months ago now! There are two sets - Drilled and Slotted - pictured right in first pic. On the left is the fret containing the middle disc representing the vented section of the brakes, along with a trim ring with the bolt detail and an optional fitting to reduce the interior diameter for smaller axles. This fret is common to both sets i.e. there are two frets per set, each of different thickness. I'm unable to show you the diagram explaining how these fit togeter at the moment coz my software is playing up, but shouldn't take a genius to work it out:wink:

The design was based on the Tamiya R34 i.e. in terms of overall size and will actually include calipers modified from the same kit - these will be cast in resin. They should fit most car models but ideally suited to Tamiya kits. With the optional fitting you will easily be able to attach them to the most common sizes of hubs found in Tamiya kits but should also have little difficulty attaching them to Aoshima, Fujimi and Hasegawa models. However, with a little surgery and basic modeling prowess, there is no reason why they cannot find their way onto the majority of the major kit manufacturers models.

Pictured below is the complete Cross Drilled disc attached to an R34 hub and subsequently the R34 rims and Nismo LMGT4's. Please tell me what you think:cool:

Impressive, most impressive :)
Do you have any idea if they fit on 1/24 Racing43 wheels as well?

Veyron
06-26-2003, 11:44 AM
Suhweet! The only real fit problem with any disk brake is having enough clearance behind the spokes of the wheel to get the brake assembly inside the wheel. Tamiya, Aoshima, Fujimi and XS Tuning have enough clearance so most of your customers should have no problem in that respect.
I'm sure there will eventually be a tutorial on fitting them to various brands of models.

Here's an example of how they can be adapted to fit smaller hubs/axles. In this case I'm using the brake discs from the Tamiya Supra. The plastic brake disc is removed from the hub and sanded smooth. The face of the etched disc has a recess for the trim ring to fit, here the optional fitting goes in place first then the trim ring on top of that. This reduces the interior diamter by 1mm. The other ring fits in place behind, its purpose is to create more surface area for secure attachment to the hub.

whoa im slow!!! definitely very nice.. examined a few sets of other disc brakes that came with wheels.. they didn't look nearly as good as yours.. so when the set is available it will come with calipers, too? that would be good!! i have all kinds of ideas of things you should make..

seats
steering wheels
speakers/amps
windshield wipers
mirrors
exhaust setups
maybe even wheels :)

but hey let's not rush things.:bloated:

love the work you have done so far and i know anything you release in the future will be awesome. i haven't bought anything from you yet.. i may be getting a kit though that will require a nice body kit :) if the brakes are ready at that time i'll pick up a set, too. very awesome.

I want some, and I want them now!!! Any news on prices yet?

If you're doing more PE stuff, then here's a request. Can you do some PE mesh suitable for 1/24 grills? I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who want something a bit more realistic than Tamiya's nylon mesh.

When are you gonna update your site and put them on their, that way I can order a set or two.

flyonthewall
06-27-2003, 03:35 PM
Prices; Single sets = £7 ($11.50) ; Both sets = £12 ($20)

Each set is enough for one car, two frets per set - different thicknesses, 2 pairs of resin calipers - front pair and rear pair. Also, the intention was to have decals for the brembo logos, this is still the case but all work on the decals i have been designing for the past few weeks has stopped due to a glitch in my graphics program. This set back coupled with the fact the printers are currently swamped with orders means that these won't be done for maybe more than 6weeks:eek: Therefore i have no option but to send on the decals to all those who've ordered them. This shouldn't be a problem as they can be added long after the model was completed.

The nearest equivalent to these is Fujimi's set which is $12 per set - http://www.hlj.com/cgi-perl/hljpage.cgi?FUJ11022

They will not be featured on my site now until Jarrod is back from his hols (vacation:wink:). In the meantime I may post some up on ebay, or anyone here can always PM me or email chris@scaleautostyle.com to order their set. Supply is quite limited at the moment coz I only ordered the minimum amount incase there were errors that needed correcting - which there aren't.

I can't really answer your question, but the diameter for the discs are 14mm (front), and 12mm(rear). Hope that helps!
