Hi. im in New Zealand and am looking for a P10 primera. after looking at a few ive noticed that the cam covers are different colours from car to car. im looking at 2 litre ones. is there a difference between the creamy coloured ones and the plan uncoated ones that seem to go dull.
Is there anything else that i should look at when buying a primera
cheers

Someone can correct me if I am wrong on this. Here goes:

(This is in reference to US sold SR20DEs)

The '91-'93.5 SR20DE Rocker cover was painted a light gold and the spark plug area was painted black. These years were also the high port intake. (Intake plenum sits low under the intake manifold). These engines also have an AIV (Air Induction Valve) that sits on top of the exhaust manifold. It is a small black box that has a hose that connects to the factory air filter box for emmissions.

The '94 and newer Rocker covers were not painted and tend to discolor after some time. These years have the low port intake and different cams. (Intake plenum sits high above the intake manifold). These engines do not have the AIV.

You can swap out the '94 and newer intake cam with a '91-'93 and gain approx. 6-8 HP over stock. The '91-'93 intake cam is a bit more aggressive than the later models.

I actually just obtained a cam cover (valve cover or rocker cover as it's called in the FSM) from a later model B14 (200sx SE-R) to polish up or use as a spare while I sent my Infiniti one off to get powdercoated. And I also obtained a cam (early 10:1 Primera cam) as of recently, installed it over the weekend, and HOLY CRAP! I'm really liking that, and writing a write-up as we speak (or I type). I will be at the dyno day on Sunday, and afterwards I'll let everyone know exactly how much that cam does help :D

So, how much of a difference is there between a '91 G20/SE-R Intake Cam and a higher compression Primera Intake Cam. Would the Primera lobes be even more aggressive than the G20 cam lobes?

Just wonderin' I have the '91 G20/SE-R Intake Cam in my '96.

I truthfully do not know. Some people have said yes, others have said no.... So i don't know?

JustinP10,

When you have the valve cover off next, maybe you could measure a lobe height (from lobe tip to base circle opposite) for comparison with the '91G20/SE-R cam. That's assuming you'd be able to get a micrometer or some vernier calipers in there.

Looking forward to your write-up.:)

I don't think I'll be able to get my hands on that type of equipment, sorry :( I'll see what I can do though, maybe someone will have something?
