ABS Pump Motor

I have a 99 silverado and the ABS Pump Motor has gone out. I need to locate the most cost-effective manner of replacing this. Can someone point me to a place where I might find used or remanufactured parts at a good price? Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to whether or not I would be able to replace it myself without sending it to a mechanic to get the work done?

As far as I know they don't sell aftermarket ABS modules, you will have to buy it from the dealer. Cheapest way to take care of it is to pull the plug leaving the ABS disabled.

Amercer, is the pump motor itself not working or is it the control module? There is a defect with the ABS control modules where the pump can either run all the time or not run at all. Most often it runs all the time and the fuse has to be pulled.

If the motor tests good, the module can be REPAIRED for $100.00. Don't get soaked $900 for another one that will fail again. The defective internal component is replaced with a significantly better one to eliminate any future problems with the ABS pump.

Gavin, how can I test the motor? Where is the control unit located, and where can I get it repaired? I have an electronics background, could I repair it myself?

would this defect cover a 95 S-10 2wd w/ 4wheel anti-lock? mine started acting up, it would sometimes work and sometimes not. then it gave up totally. the motor on it still ran the last time i fooled with.

Andy, goto www.circuitsolutions.info and click on the "ABS" icon for the unit's location, repair information and where to send the ABS control unit. You can still drive your truck while the ABS electronic module is away for repair.

Cobra, is your pump motor running all of the time? If the motor seems to be functioning normally - that is shutting off when it is supposed to.. see if you can get me the error codes. If it the motor is running constantly and you had to pull the fuse, then indeed it can be repaired for the $100 flat service fee.

Removed abs module and sent to Gavin Curtis, Circuit Solutions, for repair. The Circuity Solutions web site provides excellent instructions for this. Reinstalled, works fine now. I was able to remove the module without removing the pump, but there is little clearance...things need to be going your way and you need to be creative using tools. Also the underside of the PU was relatively clean, so "Torx" type bolts not filled with crud.

uh, this board is here for useful info and it doesnt matter how old the thread is. so what if the last post was 6 months ago, he posted how he got his unit fixed. as problematic as those unit are, i fell sure someone else can use that info.

as for newbie status, i do believe your in that group as well, 55 posts or not.

Okie, not trying to start an argument but who are you to tell him that he will be forgiven? This message board is for helping people and for gaining information. And yes you just joined in January so your not in the position to call someone else a newbie. Just because you have 56 posts means nothing. To many people post on message boards just so that they can have higer post count. Contrary to popular belief, a person's number of post is not directly related to that person's intilect or expertise in an area.

So where should I have posted the info? ABS modules are a continuing problem for some time to come and I dont see any one reporting their actual experiences with just replacing the module. Something that would have been valuable to me. Gavin Curtis does a fine job, but I would liked to have heard a few experiences from the users. Pls dont throttle info. After all you did read this old thread. There are so many threads now, why invent a new thread, if an old one suffices? And like any filing system, a solid subject title can be very useful to collect information, and does not necessary age. I would prefer to see folks error on the side of sharing information, regardless.

I had my ABS module repaired by circuit solutions in October. Gavin did an excellent and speedy job for me. I sent the module out on Tuesday and got it back on Friday. From West Virginia to Idaho and back now that's service. Wish I had seen your post earlier I would have posted then. I don't care if it's an old thread or new one, if info is needed then it is needed! Just my 2 cents worth. :iceslolan

Hey fellas, Thanx for the info. This is good stuff. I'm sending my ABS module off to circuit solutions monday. I was aiming to have it off today, but unfortunately my 99 silv 4x4 3dr spent the last 2 days at the dealer getting a new sunshell/ tranny rebuild. Good thing I have about 6k till the drivetrain warranty runs out. I'm also gonna try to seal my windshield molding to stop the wind noise. Sounds like a lot of probs for a 99 w/ 86k??? I'd still rather push her home than drive a FORD!!!
