xf falcon smokes when started?

hi all! :-)
i have just added another car to the stable;
a 1985 xf falcon wagon
s pack
auto
4.1L efi

is there any cures for the puff of smoke when starting motor???
the motor still goes strong!!

(valve seats? i know)
is it worth while trying anything to reduce this smoking???

Depends on the color of the smoke , really. Blackish would be oil , Grayish would be gas(and you'd smell it too) and Whiteish , is trouble. But it doesn't sound like a blown HG , it would blow white all the time , till you ran out of coolant. It may be oil , in which case either valve guides or stem seals or both. albyput a new set of valve guide rubbers in and that should stop the puff of smoke when starting.cheers blowne351.

Got to concur with the rest....Its almost certainly valve stem seals:)

i had the same trouble with mine, it would blow white smoke, we pulled apart the black and discovered that we had blown a piston ring, we got new pistons, bored the block at southern engine reconditionings (he gave us an awesom deal too...sorry if that sounded like an advertisment...lol) and we are gonna paint the block and head and sump this weekend hopefully, we havent put the engine back together yet but im guessing that it would have fixed the problem...

just to clear something up
if it blows white smoke its got coolant in it blown head
if its bluey smoke its oil smoke thats your rings of valve guids
if its black it is just fuel
