Making Your Own Grill

I was browsing the threads in the Exterior/bodykits/lighting section and there was this guy advertising his Grill company. Well to make a short story shorter a few people responded on how it was so easy to make your own grille. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to mod'in a car so I was wondering if anybody could give me a play by play on making my own grill?:confused:

Are you talking about putting grille mesh in the holes in the bumper or front grille?

1. Go to home depot, find galvanized sheet metal lath mesh. Its like heavy chick wire. (my 3 x 8' sheet was like 3 bucks)
1a. If you want the grill another (i.e. black) find some spray paint in that color.
2. Find wire cutters.
3. (using wire cutters) Cut a rectangle size piece of this mesh out a little bigger than the hole in the bumper.
4. By this time, you should see whether you like the silver look or if you'd like to get another color.
5. This can be done two ways
5a. trace the hole in the bumper onto a piece of cardboard and then trim the mesh according to the template.
5b. Keep triming it down to about the right size until it fits. If its too big in a certain area don't force it. It will scrape the paint.
(Mine looks like i did it myself. I used the second method and i wasn't thinking)
6. Getting it to stay in the hole can be done a variety of ways. Liquid nails are one solution. Or you coule drill some holes inside the bumper where it wouldn't be seen any way and then zip tie it. Be creative but make it clean.

i did the same thing but wouldnt use liquid nails or any other adhesive. i used about 6 zipties in inconspicous spots on the inside of th bumper. holds great and no chance of coming off. any adhesive has a chance of comming off with rain and heat and rain and heat so on and so on

Agreed. I used thin wire as wire ties to hold mine on. Unless you're a half foot from it, you can't tell how it's held on. ;)
