The return of the Hyundai Accent

Like the Skoda Octavia, the Hyundai Accent is a car that's not very competitive. Next year though, there might be a chance we see an updated Accent. That's what I call good news.

Hyundai seeks green light

June 25, 2003

Hyundai tuner Motor Sport Developments is ready to commence serious development of a re-designed Accent for the 2004 World Rally Championship as soon as it is gains approval from senior Hyundai management in South Korea.

Hyundai needs to re-vamp the Accent for 2004 in any case, because the current WRC3 does not comply with the planned minimum bodyshell weight, but MSD Managing Director David Whitehead said that preliminary studies have been made for a much more extensive re-design that includes a more powerful engine.

"We need a heavily revised car for next year, not only to meet regulations, but to retain competitiveness," Whitehead disclosed.

Plans remain fluid pending a decision on the 2004 budget.

I hope they get a green light from the Korean headquarter. Looking forward to see the new Accent.

What do you think of the Accent WRC as it is today?

It would be great to see Hyundai with a more competitive car.

I don't dislike the Hyundai Accent except it isn't competitive enough, if they can overcome that then it will be a great car.
