Bought this Mugen Beat (Aoshima) from the local hobby shop at cheap price about 2 weeks ago. I haven't see any one building/built this kit here so i hope you'll find it to be a bit different from the ferraris and rx7s that almost every one of us are building :)
Anyway, as i'm waiting for the painting of the C-West FD3s to dry, i start working on this, here are some progress pics:
the body painted in silver:

and they are tiny and very narow!!! it makes it difficult for me to just use some other wheels to replace them

so i've decided to use the spare factory wheels from my C-west FD3S and cut them up so they are sme width as the mugen wheels.. and i ve to use the tyres that come with the mugen wheels because they are so narrow. I've painte the wheels using flat black.
I'll post up more pics when i have more progress..

These wheels looks alot better than mugens! Yeap, a bit big! Just a suggestion: modify the body frame a little

That looks hot, put a little camber on the front wheel or push it into the well more...it sticks out to far, the back looks fine tho

thanks for the feedback.
yeah i would like to make it a widebody or something (esp because the wheels are so big) but my putty skill is not very good yet so i don't want to ruin the model . But thanks for the suggestion :bigthumb:
good idea! I'll try to put a bit more front camber tonight. :)

Kei cars are supposed to have dinner plates for wheels.
But still, those FD wheels look pretty cool. Keep it up. Nice Beat!! :D
If you need pics, here are a couple of a silver Beat my friend took in Japan:

Looks great for a Kei car! Flowing very nicely with the progress, will look great when it's finished.
Sidenote: Anyone raced these things in Gran Turismo 2? They are so damn slow! Sound like trucks too

That's not a drift car, the camber does not look good. Put the Mugens back on.

the beat looks great. i think you would be surprised at what the car would look like with the mugen wheels. it looks nice how it is though, but the wheels do look kinda big for the car.
good work thats for sure.:bigthumb:

ok 90% finished... basically just need to put the headlight and taillights on and clean up a bit and it's all done. However, as the headlight itself is just a flat piece of plastic (i.e. not 3D shape like most other models) and the headlight cover is very simple as well.. i find that the headlight looks very "fake" and almost no details when i test fit it today... anyone got a suggestion??

Do you really like that car?
Did a good job on it, but building a model like that after your S15 is a BIG step down. :lol2:
I wouldn't build that model because It doesn't look nor seem exciting.

bah humbug: That's a good question. To be honest, i probably wouldn't buy it if it was not on sale (only $15 NZ.. compare to around $50 for most of the normal Fujimi/Tamiya kit here in NZ). i haven't see anyone here built it before so i think it's a something new :) And I was a bit frustrated after having quite a few problems with the C-West FD3S that i'm working on so i think it would give me a break from that... And because it's cheap and easy to build, i think it's good for me to try and experiment a few things so i won't be so sad in case i ruined it.. lucky nothing really goes wrong (well except the clear coat is yellow :( ) I'll go back and finish my FD now :) and don't worry i got a few more exciting models sitting in my room already :)
