Explorer vs. Traverse cargo area

I'm looking at a new Ford Explorer and a new Chevy Traverse. They are both about the same size but the specs. say the Traverse has almost 30 cu. ft. more cargo space than the Explorer (87 vs. 116), how can this be if they are almost the same size ? I'm concerned about the area when all the back seats are down.
