Ok, so here's the story, i don't know how long it's gonna be, because i don't know how much detail i'm gonna put into this, so bear with me. It happened last night. I was driving my 99 cavalier by the way.
Ok, so i get behind this guy in the left turning lane at a light. I could tell he had some work done to his car like exhaust. I'm not positive about what kind of car it was because the emblems were all shaved off. My guess is an MX-6, or it might have been a 240sx. not too sure. anyways, there was a car infront of him, him, and then me. so we turn onto the two lane road from the left turning lane, and i figured, what the hell, i'll play with him. i kinda got on it, and drove by him, pausing beside him, and then getting on it. up ahead was a right turning ramp, so i went on that, it went to a two lane road, he followed...there was a car ahead of me in the right lane, then me, and then him, i can hear him get downshift behind me, judging by the speed we were going at this time i'm guessing to second gear, then he got on it, drove around me, and friggin squeeled his tires going to third. I was like, ok this guy has done some major work too his car. I tried to follow, but i couldn't catch up. We were both speeding down the road way above the speed limit, but there were no cars up ahead. there was a sharp curve up ahead, he took it really fast, but his car could handle it, i took it slower, because i this point i already got off the power, and was nowhere near him. Up ahead was a light, and it was red. i pull beside him, and say there's no way in hell i'm beat you. the light changes as i'm saying this, and he launches beautifully. his tires smoked but we wasn't spinning for very long, i was like, damn this thing has power. at the same time he floored it, i did too. he pulled ahead immediately, and kept pulling up to about 70km/h, at this point he was about 4 or 5 car lengths ahead, who knows, from 70km../h up to 120km/h the gap stayed pretty even, i was starting to pull in slightly, but barely. we both hit the brakes at about the same time, since the speed limit was only 80. damn this is getting long! lol
anyways, he turned off right away, and i kept going straight. and by the way he squeeled his tires going into second, and third.....damn....that thing had some serious balls...whatever he did to it, i don't want to knwo how much it cost him

Was prolly a 240 then , KA24DE with a turbo , most likely. If you didn't hear a BOV , then maybe not , or he might have a very quiet one , sleeper style. You have a 99 Cavalier? Bet I could could beat ya with my 90 NT Galant . I got 190 Hp , no turbo.:iceslolan

don't get me wrong guys, i never expected to have a chance in hell with my cavy. I just thought i'd play with him a little bit, see what his car could do. I think if i would have had my Bonneville it would have been a little closer. I wish i would have paid more attention to what kind of car it was.

hehe... no really if it handled that well it was prolly a 240. if you didnt hear a bov then it was prolly a modded n/a stick. you can get them into 14's with some work.

you can barely hear the BOV's on a 240. this is beuacse we use MAF sensors. if we just vent our boost into the atmosphere our cars will stall. so we redirect the boost back to the intake tract. therefore our BOV is almost silent. you can still hear it, but its not loud loud.

True , but aftermarket BOV's like the Greddy Type-S don't have to vent to atmosphere to sound loud. I used on in my 92 Eclipse with the recirc pipe intact and it was loud as all hell. In fact , I was trying to find ways to quiet it down , before I sold it..............:mad:

RockinWRX, was your Galant a VR4(4G63T, AWD, better trans than a T/L/E)? And if so, why was it running a 16.2? Low C/R?

Its actually a Galant GSX , the NT model. It has AWD and the GVR4 tranny , but no turbo........:frown: On the plus side , it weighs a lot less than the Galant VR4 ...... no Active ECS , and no AWS.
I was gonna convert it to turbo , but now I'm thinking about going all-motor.:biggrin:

so we redirect the boost back to the intake tract. therefore our BOV is almost silent my friend does this with his turbo coupe, that things a monster, anyways....stick to racing the bonneville :bigthumb:

Yeah, that's how most factory turbo cars are due to the location of the MAF. DSM's & 3000GT/Stealth's got a new piece of hardware called the MAFTranslator. It uses a GM hot-wire from LT1, LS1, and LS6's. It allows you to place the sensor up by the TB in the upper intercooler pipe past the BOV. They way outflow the 2nd gen DSM sensor. The LS6 is good for like 800+CFM, maybe its 1000cfm. So now we can use an uninterrupted intake tube (even cold-air it) and vent. The MAFT, SAFC, along with the pocketlogger makes for a decent piggyback setup for about $5-600. A TMO(Technomotive) stage 2 EPROM with no rev limit and no fuel cut would also be nice. The turbo is supposed to be quite loud with the more open intake.

I knew a few guys that were doing that with the stock MAF. It takes no little amount of cutting , but its doable.
