Hello all!
I've poked around a bit (being new here) and although I've found info about programming the keyless entry system for other years, I haven't found anything on doing a 2000. If there is a message already about this, please point me to it, otherwise here's my info:
I just got this truck last week, and it came with one keyless entry fob. The dealer will give me another one, but the they have to charge me for "reprogramming" ($50!). Can someone help me out?
Thanks,
Bill

Do you have a vin number?
The main difference is the Engine size and body styling.
The front end has a more rounded appearance for the new body style.

Transmitter Programming
Start with the ignition OFF, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel. Turn ignition key ON, OFF, ON, OFF. Release power unlock button on the door panel. The locks will cycle once.
Hold down the keyless entry transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for 15 seconds. The locks will again cycle once.
Repeat step #2 for each additional keyless entry transmitter.
Turn the ignition on to exit the keyless entry transmitter programming mode. Programming is now complete.
Method 2-Scan Tool Required
In the event that a transmitter is lost, program the old and the new transmitters into the memory of the remote control door lock receiver. Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed.
Important
Once the keyless entry receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information. You must then program all of the transmitters.
Program only 1 vehicle remote control door lock receiver at a time. If you program multiple receivers simultaneously, the same transmitter may possibly be programmed to more than 1 remote control door lock receiver.
The following procedure describes how to program the remote control door lock transmitters to the remote control door lock receiver using the Tech 2®. You may also use an equivalent scan tool in order to perform this procedure.
Perform the following steps:
Connect the scan tool to the following components:
An applicable power source
The vehicle data link connector (DLC)
Turn the ignition ON.
At the application menu screen, select F0 (body control module).
At the body control module screen, select F2 (special functions).
At the special functions menu screen, select F3 (program key fobs).
Follow the directions on the scan tool display in order to program the transmitters.
Press EXIT repeatedly until you view the application menu screen.
Disconnect the scan tool from the following components:
The accessory power port
The vehicle DLC
Validate that all the transmitters that were programmed operate properly. Refer to Remote Keyless Entry System Operation.

Transmitter Programming Base
If they key is in the ON position during the programming procedure, the horn chirp will be disabled, if the key is in the OFF position, the horn chirp will be enabled. The horn will chirp when the lock button is pressed two times.
When reprogramming the remote control door lock reciever, All transmitters must be programmed at this time in order for the transmitters to operate the vehicle. Transmitters not programed at this time will not work and the procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters.
Ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector (DLC). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors, and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first transmitter to be programmed until the locks cycle (approximately 10 seconds).
Repeat step 2 for up to four total transmitters to be programmed (if available). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
Remove the ground applied to the DLC.
Lock and unlock the doors in order to verify the transmitter operation.
Activate the rear window release in order to verify the transmitter operation.

Just an update guys.....went to pick the truck up at the dealer (installing all the stuff they promised me when I bought it), and when I asked for the fob, they had already programmed it for me! Guess it didn't hurt that when I dropped the truck off that morning, I told them I didn't need them to do it for me since some friends had given me instructions. Thanks!

This worked for my '02:
1. Start with ignition off.
2. Press and hold unlock button on drivers door, the locks will cycle once.
3. Turn ignition on-off-on-off.
4. Release unlock button, the locks will cycle once.
5. Hold down lock and unlock keys on keyfob transmitter until locks cycle (about 15 seconds).
6. Repeat step 5. for remaining keyfobs (up to 4 total)
7. Turn ignition on to exit the programming mode. Programming is now complete
On step 5 you have to hold down the unlock and lock buttons on the remote at the same time till you see the doors lock then it will be complete.........
Is that what you did?
1. Start with ignition off.
2. Press and hold unlock button on drivers door, the locks will cycle once.
3. Turn ignition on-off-on-off.
4. Release unlock button, the locks will cycle once.

7. Turn ignition on to exit the programming mode. Programming is now complete

How do you know if the FOB is the right one for your truck? I have a 99 Z71. I've looked at the numbers on the back of the FOB but don't know if they are the correct ones. Please help.

i calle dmy dealer and had them verify with my vin # if my remotes were right and they said yes. This is not working for my 01 silverado either. Is it possible some of these do have to be programmed with a scan tool? I even went to the store and had them check batteries. They said they had full power. I dont know. I'm getting aggrivated.

You probably do have the wrong remotes. The 01 also uses KOBUT1BT / GM: 15732803.
